Beholder: Conductor in IOS

Surveillance thriller game

Our Site Score

89/100

Beholder: Conductor successfully captures the crushing dread of the previous games while introducing a fresh, claustrophobic setting. Being stuck on a train adds a new layer of tension—you can't just run away from the consequences of your actions. The interactions with passengers feel more intimate and, therefore, the moral choices feel much heavier.

The art style remains iconic: dark, shadowy figures with glowing eyes that emphasize the lack of individuality in a total-surveillance state. The UI is well-adapted for touch screens, making it easy to toggle between cameras and inventory.

What makes this game truly 'expert' level is the writing. The stories of the passengers are genuinely tragic and moving, making it very difficult to be a 'loyal' employee. It’s a thinking-person's game that will leave you questioning your own morality long after you've closed the app. A fantastic, dark addition to the App Store.

Now this is more like it. I’ve always appreciated the grim, uncompromising tone of the Beholder series, and moving the setting to a train is a masterstroke of design. It literalizes the feeling of being trapped in a system you can't control. As a 40-year-old gamer, I appreciate stories that don't treat me like a child; the choices here have actual weight, and 'doing the right thing' is often the quickest way to a 'Game Over' screen.

The mechanics of searching baggage and reporting passengers are satisfyingly tactile, though the UI can get a bit cluttered on a smaller phone screen. My only real gripe is that the 'free-to-start' model feels slightly deceptive when the full experience is gated behind an IAP, but given the quality of the writing and the atmosphere, it’s a price worth paying for fans of the genre. It's not 'fun' in the traditional sense—it's stressful and depressing—but it's a piece of work that respects the player's intelligence.
