Old School Musical is a brilliant love letter to the era of Game Boys and CRT TVs. The chiptune soundtrack is genuinely incredible—I found myself listening to the music outside of the game. What really makes it stand out, though, is the humor. The way it parodies classic games like Zelda, Metal Gear, and Pokémon while you're frantically tapping to the beat is consistently funny.

The game strikes a great balance with its difficulty. It starts off easy enough for anyone to enjoy, but the 'Chicken Republic' mode at the end will humble even the most experienced rhythm game veterans. The visual style changes to match whatever game is being parodied, which is a fantastic touch. If you have any nostalgia for 8-bit or 16-bit gaming, this is an absolute must-play.

Dinsun Review

Dinsun here. I’ve seen enough rhythm games to know when a developer is leaning too hard on chiptune nostalgia. Old School Musical is a competent port, but it's stripped down. On mobile, we only get the 'Chicken Republic' content, losing the genre-hopping variety that made the console version stand out. The mechanics are standard: four buttons, rhythmic timing, and a lot of flashing lights. It’s functional, but at 40, I need more than just a flashing screen to keep me engaged. The ads for free songs are a nuisance, though typical for the platform. It’s a decent way to kill twenty minutes, but don't expect it to redefine your library.
