Issues make it frustrating
Tue Sep 24 2019 This harpI’ve noticed that the app can hang if you attempt to resume a game after exiting completely out and coming back in.
There is a particular scenario I ran into after continuing a game in the falling platform scene. There are 9 chances to jump off the platform. I played the scene correctly hitting all 9 times and still died. Maybe I need to find a walk through, but it appeared to me to be a bug.
I loved this game and still do, but it needs to be a tad more forgiving in easy mode. I think my screen isn’t calibrated just so or my skin is to dry to register taps reliably..
A not so good port of the original game.
Mon Jun 25 2018 BloxStar180Dragon’s Lair was a arcade game that used revolutionaly technology by using massive discs to output video. It was the grandfather of quick-time events. The game received a sequel and spin-off known as Space Ace, both didn’t do so well due to the Video Game Crash of 1983. The original game got so successful that it recieved many ports, most infamously, the NES version. As technology evolved, we got the console versions, the Steam version, and this version.
The iOS version is not very good. Even though the entire game plays exactly like the original, it seems that the window of when to hit the correct button is offset from the video, resulting in cheap deaths. It would be cool if there was the ability to play the infamous drawbridge scene, but that most likely will not happen since this game hasn’t been updated in years.
If you’re looking for a good port of the original Dragon’s Lair, this is definitely not one of them. I would suggest playing the console versions or the Steam version of the game.
See this before buying!!!
Mon Dec 09 2019 ndirushguy21This game is Only for people who have a fast reaction time so if your slow don't buy this, but if you are going to not buy this please buy this because it's fun for your friends and yourself because it's so action-packed because every room is randomized and the Amazing art is so nice if the game was pixelized you wouldn't feel a lot when the guy dies but the artwork makes is feel so horrible when the guy dies but some of the death scenes are just recycled from other scenes ( this was probably just for space and money and time ) so it's worth 5.00 $ on iPhone so I would buy it and I did and it was made it the 80’s for arcades so it's a little fuzzy but I don't mind and you can watch the entire game and see all of the death scenes and what you were supposed to do
Stranger Things Brought Me To This Great Game!
Sun Jul 03 2022 mikecohenI had forgotten all about this game from
back in the day until I saw it played on Stranger Things. Once I had, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I hadn’t even considered that there might be an iOS version until the other day when I checked and, to my delight, there is! Now my whole family is playing it on our iPhones and iPads. The game is just like I remember it but, with enough time, practice, and memory (no quarters needed anymore), we’ve all been able to beat it - even my 8-yr-old. Love this and will definitely be buying the sequel!
Game and movement speed increased by two
Wed Jun 10 2020 NorthWinterholdThe game and movement speed is increased by two. Gameplay and artwork is identical, but reaction time is decreased by two times original 80’s game speed. I own two Dragons Lair coin-op machines from the 80’s. The laser disc version and the PCB version. I have compared the two originals and the mobile version and there is quite a difference in game speeds. You must react extremely fast to complete a move.
The controls for this game are difficult to get use to and are very close together which makes it hard to play. The sword button is in a perfect location so that is fine. So just beware! If you purchase this game don’t expect it to be just like the original. Only thing that is exact is the graphics. The sound is different as well. Hope this helps you all. Game On!
Fun Game; Buggy Port
Tue Mar 06 2018 Rock RollerI played this for the first time, yesterday, at an arcade. The game is fun enough. Prior to purchasing the iOS version, I read one review talking of a particular scene not responding to the control input. I looked past it in hopes that it had been fixed.
Now I have played for 10 minutes, myself, and there is a scene that has bugged out any time I try it; I make the correct selection, but the game does not load whatever comes next.
I am all for keeping old games alive, but it is even less respectful to an audience to release a broken product and not continue making fixes. As a fan, and consumer, I implore all producers to create content that functions properly.
Game play is great!
Fri Aug 21 2020 IzoneiI would give this a 5 star however there are 2 things that all APPs at this point should have:
1. The settings option that appear when the game starts is no longer available after you set them and play. So if I want to change some of the experience I can’t.
2. Login option to save to cloud so if you change phones you keep your scores.
Now, I remember playing this as a kid and it was always a challenge to play and still is. This version is just as challenging and it takes time to get better which means you won’t be board.
Overall play is nothing like what others have said in reviews from 2 years ago, as the play and continue options are great.
Thanks
A disappointing game
Wed Oct 30 2019 TailscatsI love the original very much but this falls short in several categories. First there are still glitches that need to be fixed, one is the stage where the floor drops out several times and gives opportunities to jump. I hit the bottom on the exact time and he doesn’t jump and I fall to my death every time and can’t advance. The second is I already purchased this game from the App Store and it still charged me $4.99 even though I already own the game. I will be addressing this as well. The sound and the visuals aren’t in sync which is kinda odd. Overall this game needs some major love poured into it by the developers if its going to hold a candle to its former glory.
Endless Loop. Need a fix!!
Tue Nov 21 2017 omagic77First off, I love this game! Brings back so many memories of playing it when I was kid. Controls take a bit getting use to, but it plays just like the arcade.
All that being said, there’s an issue with the part of the game where Dirk is on the falling platform. You hit the control for him to jump and it doesn’t register. The next scene begins with him jumping off the platform, then going back on it again only to not be able to jump off and fall. This just keeps on repeating. Endless loop.
Once the developers fix this issue, I’ll change my score. Hope they address this soon.
Terrible
Wed Jan 08 2025 Joseph1246The original iPhone app was terrific; this 30th anniversary edition is horrible. Unless you have the “move guide” or “arcade cabinet” settings on, it is impossible to move or use the sword. The move guide setting spoils the fun of figuring out the scene sequences yourself, and the arcade cabinet is terrible to the point of near impossibility to use. The original app had the joystick and sword button “floating” in full screen mode, so that the player could move and use the sword easily—without the flashing indicator. Please bring that back.
