El Paso, Elsewhere on mobile is a technical and emotional marvel. It is a haunting, neon-noir masterpiece that manages to make a lo-fi visual style feel incredibly cinematic and high-budget. You play as James Savage, navigating a reality-shifting motel to confront his ex-girlfriend—who just happens to be the Lord of the Vampires. It is a story about addiction, heartbreak, and redemption, told with a level of soul that is vanishingly rare in the shooter genre.
The combat is heavily inspired by 'Max Payne,' with slow-motion dives and balletic gunplay that feels fantastic with the updated touch controls. But the real star is the atmosphere; the combination of the spoken-word narration and the original hip-hop soundtrack creates a mood that is thick with dread and melancholy. It is a brave, visionary game that doesn't hold back. If you want a shooter that has something to say and looks incredible while saying it, El Paso, Elsewhere is a must-play.
Finally, a game for adults. El Paso, Elsewhere doesn't pull its punches. It’s got that raw, 1990s PC gaming energy—jagged edges, dark hallways, and a plot that isn't afraid to be weird. The bullet-time shooting is tight, and diving through doors to blast werewolves with a shotgun never gets old. It’s a mechanical throwback that actually feels modern because the writing is so damn sharp.
The mobile port is surprisingly competent, though playing this on a touch screen is a crime. Use a controller. The atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a stake, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. It’s not perfect—the level design can get a bit repetitive, and the 'low poly' look won't be for everyone—but it has more personality in its opening five minutes than most AAA titles have in forty hours. This is why I still play games.
Performance: Runs well on recent iPhones; definitely requires a controller for the best experience.
Buy if: You love Max Payne, gritty storytelling, and hip-hop culture.
Skip if: You want high-fidelity 4K graphics or hate dark, mature themes.

Painkillers are your lifeline. Use them early! Unlike other games, Savage's health doesn't regenerate, and taking damage slows down your 'Slow-Mo' recharge rate. A single pill can restore your tactical advantage and save your run during a room clear.

Ammunition is finite in the motel. For standard vampires, use your wooden stakes for a melee kill once you've stunned them with a few shots. This conserves your high-caliber ammo for the 'Biblical Bosses' that await at the end of each floor.
The game contains mature themes, violence, and strong language, intended for an adult audience.
