I’ve played games that actually respect history and the complexity of ruling a nation. This is not one of them. Emperor: Conquer Your Queen is basically a series of menus where you click 'Collect Tax' so you can buy a necklace for a digital girl. The 'management' is non-existent; it’s just a timer-based currency farm. The jousting and gladiatorial battles are barely interactive—you just watch two sprites bump into each other and wait for a result based on your power level.
The game is marketed with a heavy focus on the 'romantic' conquest of princesses, which is as shallow as a puddle in July. It’s all about giving gifts and picking the right dialogue option from a list of two. The 'Incredible Flavor' they promise is just a collection of cultural stereotypes. For a 40-year-old gamer, this is embarrassing. It’s a transparent attempt to get you to buy 'Rubies' and 'Energy' so you can see more static art of princess characters. If this is what being an Emperor is like, I’d rather be a peasant.
