★★★★★ An emotional and beautiful game
Tue Feb 04 2025 Jade OoleyI lost my grandfather last year, before him my friend of four years during lockdown, before her my dear uncle while I was pregnant with my first child and even before him I lost my best friend who was only thirteen, but my first introduction into grief was losing my 9 day old sister. Grief is sneaky, and compounding. I thought surely I would die an unnatural death because it would kill me. In the midst of trying to surface the waves of grief I’ve looked towards video games with a message. This one was free, unexpected and certainly beautiful. The soundtrack, the mechanics of gameplay and even the little messages in between levels were harmonious and relaxing but also gave me an entire new perspective on life. Some of the questions were deep, and introspective but even if it wasn’t the games intent, one of the messages made me realize that I was coping in an unhealthy manner “you cannot buy yourself into happiness with things you don’t need” so I want to say thank you to the creators for giving me a new look on not only is it okay to miss things and people, but that unnecessary searching for them won’t bring them back. Beautiful game. Beautiful message. Beautiful music and beautiful well crafted levels. Thank you truly for the experience of Empty.
★★★★★ Everything is perfect; I just wish there was more
Sun Jul 10 2022 makennarThis game is a gem amongst pick-me money-grabs and look-alike auto-runners. Everything about the game is amazing; the colors are gorgeous, the shapes are beautiful, and the music is incredibly peaceful and lovely. There are no ads, either—which I was kind of surprised about—and it made the game flow incredibly well. Unlike in most games where you select the level you'd like to play next, "Empty." fluidly flows form one level to the next, making for perfectly seamless gameplay. Speaking of, the gameplay is easy to get the hang of and quite fun to use. The only issues I had were some wonky perspectives going on when I looked at the rooms from below, but I'm not sure if that's something that could be fixed easily, and it's such a nitpick, anyway. I also just wish the game was longer! Altogether, the gameplay is roughly an hour, which sounds fair for a free-to-play game. I just wish there were more levels; I'd even pay for a full version! I would be ecstatic if the developers added more content. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the game, and I'm excited to play more from the developers!
★★★★★ Just play it!
Sat Apr 10 2021 PickAny21This is quite simply one of the best puzzle games I have ever played. I would even say this is one of the best mobile games in general than I have ever played. The levels are fun and challenging, not too hard (of the levels I’ve played.) The level design is great. (Sometimes you have to be a bit specific) The colorful look of the game is great and I love the minimalistic style of it. The music that accompanies the game is meant to put you at peace and it is some of the most relaxing music that you will ever hear and compliments the game very nicely. Describing the game is a bit difficult I will just say that each level has you getting rid of objects by making them blend in with your surroundings (if that makes sense) all in all this game is incredible even though I am earlier in the game I think. This is one of those games that I would just say “play now!” Don’t spend time reading reviews just get this. Kudos to the developers- you’ve achieved greatness!
★★★★★ This experience was amazing
Thu May 18 2023 Jambo buckI played this all the way through, and the messages actually made my day better thinking about the questions that were presented to me was awesome. This game functions how I think sometimes and I truly love it.
.
Quick edit: I see a lot of people saying needs more levels which yes the game is very short, but I think that’s vital to the kind of message that it sent the puzzles were super fun, and I love the colors they chose not too hard on the eyes but not I loved how it changed every level, but only slightly. I would love to play another game by this developer and send my deepest thank youse for this amazing opportunity to sit down and think calmly for a while. Plus it had no so it was a very through experience I would recommend this game 1 million times over I’m probably gonna tell my friend to try it right now.
★★★★★ Yes
Mon Oct 19 2020 Yeetus_maximusThis game is probably the best environment/puzzle mobile game ever. It uses the minimalist’s art styling, but instead of the over defined/under defined object textures that many mobile games use, it employs a soft yet consistent coloring. I’m not gonna lie, I haven’t seen any of those colors used in other games, probably because they don’t pop. Empty uses these muted colors and combines them perfectly, making each color seem its own. And the gameplay itself is astounding. Simple, short, hard, and easy. Detail is something that at first glance isn’t really there, but as the levels progress, you’re forced to take a look at your surroundings, and you notice these small objects that you maybe haven’t noticed. When it clicks together, it’s a very gratifying feeling. Amazing game. Thank you for putting in effort, something that you don’t really see these days, and thank you for creating such an amazing game.
★★★★★ It’s “supposed” to be short!
Sat Sep 26 2020 Ninja GakuseiBefore I explain the title, I want to give huge kudos to the developers. It’s one thing to have a unique idea, but to execute it with universal understanding and care for the player is super rare. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience.
Now, many of the reviews mention how short the game is. Well, the game itself follows the theme, that we are to focus on two things: the feeling of when something is gone, and how we react to it. The game ending so soon is no different than the items we’ve removed in the levels... we feel “empty” when something we’ve “had” in our lives is now gone. And, our varied reactions challenge how we cope with that “loss”.
For me, I’m happy to have experienced it, and to cherish the time we spend with things and people we enjoy. Again, thank you for the journey and the lessons gained.
★★★★★ Nice game
Sat May 14 2022 Word JoeThank you for making this game. It’s original and well-executed.
I’d love to toss a couple bucks at the developer(s), but I’m only willing to do that through the App Store, and I didn’t see an obvious way to do that. I am not going to use another payment system, and in fact I almost never let the apps I load touch the open internet due to all the embedded surveillance-ware libraries. That’s one thing I love about this game - it can be played to its fullest completely offline.
One suggestion, and this applies to many small or independent developers; the way many apps used to work is that you’d have a free “demo” version with a limited number of levels or features and a paid version with everything. This is perfect. It keeps the payment system completely within the App Store, protecting the user, and makes it easy to both sample the product and pay for it if it’s appealing.
Don’t get me wrong, the notion of just “putting it all out there” is appealing. That said, I just finished the game and came here looking to contribute, but seeing no easy way to do so, I thought I’d write a review with feedback instead. Again, thank you for this game, it was fun.
★★★★★ Must Play
Fri Aug 13 2021 Misspuppy123This game took me all of thirty minutes to finish, but its not about the time, it’s about the journey. The gameplay was very fresh and simple; meaning that anyone could play. The levels were fun and medium in their difficulty in my opinion. I didn’t use any hints, but I could see how the feature could be useful since some objects may be hard to match with their colors at times. I also enjoyed that there wasn’t any ads, but I encourage writing reviews because you can tell the developers spent a long time on this project. Overall, the game was unique and refreshing to play, and the music also provided a serene ambiance which really helped me wind down for the day. Definitely recommend.
