Our Site Score

80/100

End of the Universe is a fast-paced, high-stakes space shooter that leans heavily into its roguelike elements. It’s chaotic, difficult, and visually striking with its neon-drenched pixel art. The 'end of the world' atmosphere is palpable, with every run feeling like a desperate attempt to survive just one more sector against overwhelming odds.

The ship customization is surprisingly deep for such a fast game. You’re constantly choosing between offensive boosts and defensive survival tools, and the wrong choice can end a run in seconds. It rewards 'twitch' reflexes but also requires you to think on your feet about positioning. It’s a 'bullet-hell' lite experience that works perfectly on mobile, providing short, intense bursts of gameplay that are never exactly the same twice.

Dinsun Review

Dinsun here. Look, End of the Universe is fine if you just want to blow things up for five minutes, but it's shallow. The retro graphics are a bit of a cop-out to avoid high-quality assets, and the screen gets so cluttered with neon vomit that it’s hard to tell what actually hit you. It calls itself a roguelike, but the 'strategic' choices between levels are often just choosing between a bad upgrade and a slightly less bad one.

The combat is responsive, I’ll give it that. But it lacks the elegance of a true bullet hell. It feels more like a chaotic mess that you occasionally survive through luck. For a critical gamer, there’s not enough here to chew on. It’s an arcade snack, not a meal.

"the idea of a last bon voyage, guns blazing, at the edge of charted, or uncharted, space is… well, frankly it’s pretty great"
