The original Fish Tycoon on PC was a fascinating, albeit slow, genetics simulator. Fish Tycoon 2 on mobile attempts to capture that magic but utterly ruins the formula by adapting it to the worst aspects of the modern mobile ecosystem. The core puzzle of breeding different species to discover rare mutations is still inherently interesting. Finding the right combinations requires a modicum of thought and planning. Unfortunately, the developer has walled this gameplay behind excruciating real-time wait mechanics.
You are not playing a game; you are managing a schedule. Waiting hours for fish to mature or for environments to clean themselves destroys any sense of pacing or immersion. Naturally, the game offers you the 'convenience' of skipping these timers by spending premium currency. This is not game design; it is psychological extortion. The UI is cluttered with ads and prompts to open your wallet. What could have been a relaxing, thoughtful simulation has been mutated into a predatory chore-simulator. It is a massive disappointment to anyone who remembers the premium PC era.
