Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is less of a game and more of a philosophical trial. It is an exercise in frustration, perseverance, and the nature of loss. The premise—climbing a mountain of junk in a cauldron using only a sledgehammer—is absurd, yet the physics are so precise that every failure feels entirely like your own fault. This makes the eventual successes feel more rewarding than almost any other game on the market.
Bennett Foddy’s calm, detached narration as you tumble down the mountain is the icing on the cake. He provides quotes about the value of failure and the history of frustrating games, which either serves as a comfort or a subtle taunt depending on your mood. On mobile, the touch controls are surprisingly viable once you build the muscle memory. It is a modern classic that everyone should try at least once, if only to see how long they can last before their spirit breaks.
Dinsun here. Most modern games want to kiss your feet and give you a trophy for showing up. Not Bennett Foddy. Getting Over It is honest. It’s hard, it’s unfair, and when you fall—and you will fall—it’s your own fault. The touch controls on mobile are surprisingly precise, which makes every mistake feel even more personal. The narration from Foddy himself is the cherry on top; it’s like having a philosopher taunt you while you're in the middle of a breakdown. It’s a pure, unadulterated test of patience and skill. It’s not 'fun' in the traditional sense, but it’s one of the most rewarding things I’ve played in decades. Essential, if you have the stomach for it.

A game I made
For a certain kind of person
To hurt them.
• Climb up an enormous mountain with nothing but a hammer and a pot.
• Listen as I make philosophical observations about the problem at hand.
• Between 2 and ∞ hours of agonizing gameplay, depending. The median time to finish for my playtesters was 5 hours, but the mean was closer to ∞.
• Lose all your progress, over and over.
• Feel new types of frustration you didn't know you were capable of.

Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a punishing climbing game, a homage to Jazzuo's 2002 B-Game classic 'Sexy Hiking'. You move the hammer with the mouse (or touch), and that's all there is. With practice, you'll be able to jump, swing, climb and fly. Great mysteries and a wonderful reward await the master hikers who reach the top of the mountain. Listen to Bennett's philosophical observations about the struggle as you make your way up.

The biggest mistake beginners make is moving the hammer too fast. Slow, circular motions provide much better control and prevent the 'pogo' effect that launches you backward.

When you reach the infamous 'Orange Hill', use short, precise stabs with the hammer to find traction. Don't try to swing through it in one go.
The game saves your position constantly, but there is no 'undo' button for when you fall.
