Love, need more levels and achievements!
Sun Apr 23 2023 VictorMarkhoffI think this is the first time I’ve written a review for an app literally ever since getting my first iPhone in 2011.
Golf odyssey reminds me of the simple genius of early mobile games. It actually engages with you. It’s addictive but not ruining addictive. It’s relaxing. It’s challenging. In a sea of poorly designed games with ads every .2 seconds, golf odyssey stands out. It’s been a very long time since I’ve come across such a high quality game.
I was happy to pay a couple of bucks not to watch ads for an extra ball or a second chance. I think that’s why I made it through all the available worlds in about a week. I feel ambivalent about a permanent extra ball being attached to the purchase. On the one hand, it feels like pay for purchase play. On the other hand, it is a nice little bonus with getting rid of the ads. I think it would be cool to be able to toggle it on and off.
I’m surprised there’s only 5 worlds so far! The game deserves more. In the meantime, I wish there were achievements to give the past worlds replay value. Like personal records of most hole in ones, least balls used, max hole in one streak, number of times world was completed, number of times a certain level was completed, etc. That way, you can take the time to carefully and properly develop future worlds and someone like me who got ahead can replay the old ones to bump up their stats.
Thank you for the fun!
Challenging game, major focus needed
Thu Jan 18 2024 Hey_cal3bThis game was precisely made for errors and mistakes to be made. With that being said the first few courses were fairly easy. The first course, the general basic entry to the game then eases harder and harder courses and holes upon those course. After completion of the third course you stumble upon so said fourth course. Those course really determines if you quit the game or not, countless times I didn’t think I’d beat it. Sooner or later yesterday night I beat it. You would think world five to be impossible, but honestly it was a bummer, less challenging more of a gimme. Although course four really made me question why I played the game, I did enjoy the challenge and the focus it had. Looking for to future updates if any.
A zen atmosphere with a pretty high difficulty
Sun Apr 23 2023 thatcoolguykurtThis games gorgeous! The music and art are lovely. The gameplay is addicting as well. I opted to pay 1.99 to get the extra life and extra chances after failing. The first three worlds were relatively easy, but my goodness the 4th world is brutal! After attempting it some 100 times I decided to stop. It’s a shame cause I really enjoyed it, but I had a hard time improving my shots from attempt to attempt.
If I had a note, I think an option to see what your last shot was, both the strength and the position, that way you can judge your shot based on how well you did last hit. Additionally I think a way to permanently increase the amount of balls you have would be nice, maybe add an option to rent for a low amount, or buy for a very expensive price, and increase the price for each ball.
Overall it’s a great game that would like to keep playing, but I can’t seem to crack world 4.
Fun and Challenging Game + a Tip
Fri Jan 12 2024 ZealiumThe game entices new players with relatively* intuitive gameplay. The first couple worlds are simple enough to play casually whenever/wherever. The third world requires a bit more of your attention. The fourth world is somewhat of a monster. You may beat it your first try by accident, or you may try for years to no avail. The fifth world is a satisfying "gimme" to reward you for climbing through the trenches that are the 4th world.
*The power meter only gives you a rough estimate in the later worlds. I recommend controlling your power by going from one power to the next to find the lower and upper bounds for different amounts of power. Then pick one and find the right angle!
Simple and fun
Sat May 01 2021 ToxicistI like the smooth and calm atmosphere of this game. After reading the other reviews, I kind of agree with some of them. About maybe adding achievements, for like one-holing with max shooting power for example; rewarding the player with an extra ball for a one-hole, etc. You did mention you were working on extra features in an update, so take your time. Highly recommend this game.
If I may ask a few questions,
I’m an aspiring developer, and I’m still figuring everything out. Can you tell me how long this game took to make? And what engine you used? Thank you!
Unforgiving
Mon Oct 12 2020 Well bust my buttons! The dark souls of mobile gold games. Must clear 20 consecutive levels to clear first stage. I would have made them separate completions at first but gee whiz this game takes off the gloves when you first start playing it. The brutality of the game is in the little beacons of hope that the second chance lifelines give you, but then it crushes you on level 7 or 13 when you inevitably fail. I like it though. I would suggest this game to someone I hate, and get to hold over them that I made it to level 20 on the first world.
Most relaxing game
Mon Nov 09 2020 pptoothI love this game, I just found it the other day and decided to try it out. Turned out to be now one of my favorite mobile games! It’s so relaxing with the background music they have implanted in this game and I highly recommend it especially to people with anxiety or get headaches frequently. I go to play the game and the music is so relaxing , no frustration at all if you mess up on the levels just serenity in general. I’ve even just turned the game on to hear the music. Highly recommend this game!
Could be easier
Sun Sep 27 2020 DopeBroThe difficulty is pretty brutal, even with the ads they give you for perks my record is 13. That being said the game is chill. It’s a fun golf physics toy with a nice aesthetic. One request would be to make the power meter a bit more legible. It’s hard to tell exactly what I’m doing with such a minimal design. An extra ball for every hole-in-one could help with difficulty too.
For a zen-like game, it would be nice to be able to progress through it, rather than quitting in frustration. Regardless, I like the game.
So relaxing and fun
Tue Oct 12 2021 chuckles 88It’s like limbo but golf and slightly more color of an evening sunset with relaxing music.
That being said I was so tempted to absolutely bash this game because of abusive relationship with ads. It’s absurd how bad it is, the Dev must be a greedy individual . It’s strange because greed don’t match the game . You’d think it be slightly more layer back with other ways of paying for the game than 7 to 10 ADS per 20 holes and that’s if your at least decent at the game.
Brutal but fun, one bug.
Mon Nov 02 2020 stuartbelI finally beat this game and did so without paying anything so I feel I can write a review. Simple mechanics. Extremely unforgiving gameplay. You gotta beat 20 consecutive holes with 2 balls per hole to progress. Found the third course to be easier than the second. Maybe I just got better tho. You have to switch the music off every time you load the game tho which should be an easy fix. Add more courses, only get ads that don’t stop your music, and fix the bug and then it’s a 5-star.
