Halfbrick has done it again. After conquering fruit and jetpacks, they’ve turned their attention to the football pitch, and the result is pure arcade gold. Halfbrick Sports Football ignores the complex button layouts of FIFA and instead focuses on the tactile joy of flicking and swiping. It feels more like an evolution of Fruit Ninja's precision than a standard sports sim, and that’s why it works.

The matches are short, usually lasting under three minutes, which is perfect for mobile play. The physics are 'exaggerated' in the best way possible—you can curve shots at impossible angles and perform gravity-defying saves. It’s colorful, loud, and incredibly social. Whether you’re playing against AI or a real opponent, the adrenaline rush of a last-second goal is real. It’s easily the most fun I've had with a sports game on a phone in years.

Halfbrick used to be the gold standard for mobile polish. This effort feels... thin. It has that bouncy, responsive feel they’re known for, but the actual 'football' part is so simplified it barely qualifies as a sport. It’s basically a target practice game with a stadium backdrop. The matches are over before they even start.

It’s fine for a few minutes of fun, but where’s the meat? There’s no team management, no depth to the tactics, just 'tap here to kick'. It’s a classic case of an arcade developer not knowing how to translate a complex sport into their style without losing what makes the sport interesting. It’s better than most shovelware, but disappointing coming from this studio.
