Imperial Settlers Roll & Write is a brave and largely successful attempt to condense a complex engine-building board game into a mobile app. For fans of the original Portal Games title, the core DNA is all here: you roll dice to gather resources and use them to construct buildings that provide ongoing bonuses. It’s a very solitary experience, focusing entirely on your own empire's efficiency rather than player interaction, which actually makes it a perfect fit for mobile play.

The 'Adventure' sets provide a lot of variety, with different village layouts that force you to rethink your strategy every time. My only real gripe is the progression system; unlocking new content can feel like a bit of a grind, requiring you to replay levels to earn enough crowns. However, the 'one-more-turn' logic is strong here, and the satisfaction of building a resource engine that generates massive points in the final rounds is hard to beat.
