Finally, a game for someone with a brain. Letterlike takes the roguelike structure that made Balatro a hit and applies it to vocabulary. It’s not just about knowing big words; it’s about when to play them and how to build your 'deck' of letters and power-ups. The fact that it’s a one-time purchase without the predatory 'energy' or 'hint' microtransactions of other word games is enough to make this old gamer weep with joy.
The visuals are clean and minimalist, which I prefer over the neon epilepsy-triggers common today. It’s difficult, it’s fair, and it actually rewards you for being clever. My only gripe is that once you find a winning strategy, the variety in letters can feel a bit thin in later runs. Still, this is the best use of a word game I’ve seen in a decade.
