★★★★★ Monetization is heading down a dark path.

Let’s start with the negative: Every update rolls out with dozens of new bugs that stay around for months at a time. Over time, they have worsened the rewards for free-to-play users and reduced the rewards for paying players. The publicity team and the devs openly mock the player base through there comments online AND various in game titles. Second Dinner recently split from its publishing company and this has marked a much more predatory change in how they view monetization. The company has absolutely no respect for the people that enjoy their product, and incredibly bad communication skills to pair it with. Battle pass rewards, game mode rewards, and limited time mode rewards have only continued to worsen with each event. If you have problems with excessive spending or a gambling problem, DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. Now for the positive: I have been playing for years, spending money occasionally and I can commend that the game is fun and engaging with lots of potential. Plenty of lovely art and fun interactions between cards and decks to explore. No two matches are the same. Casual players will enjoy it especially if you are fans of Marvel. Free-to-play players will have lots of fun if they are patient gamers. Battle Pass purchasers will enjoy a bonus card each month but rewards were slowly downgraded until they eventually released a Super Battle Pass that is twice the price but not twice the value. If you have a lot of extra money there is a lot of enjoyment to be had unlocking cards and cosmetics and gaining the competitive edge through your hard earned money.

★★★★★ Amazing, for a long while, for free.

I have had a really fun time with this app, and have put countless minutes into it (the matches are only a few minutes long). I only paid about $3 after I determined I liked it, which got me some Captain America-related items that I pretty much never used. So, that is to say, I could have paid $0 and been in the same position I am in now. So, what's the deal with the in-app purchases? In this game, as in real-world collectible card games, you can get a lot of enjoyment for little or no money. But you do hit a point where you are at a disadvantage not having spent money to obtain certain cards. To the Snap team's credit, it takes a while to hit that point each season, which for me arrives when I hit around level 50. Theoretically you could grind your way over days and months to get the cards you need to battle with the card collectors without spending. But ultimately it's a losing battle. So, for me so far, each season (before a level reset) I battle my way up to level 50, then start losing against card combos I'm not willing to pay the price to obtain. And that's good enough, though it is a lttle dispiriting when you hit that wall. Everything in this game is I think just about as well done as you could possibly imagine. The Marvel chaarcters are true to form, the animations are fantastic. The abilities and locations are so fun in gameplay. Expertly done and with love for the Marvel universe. I highly recommend trying it out, even if you have no wish to drop any cash into it.

This is my first card game and so far I’ve been having a really great time with it. Probably too great because I keep finding myself playing it constantly. One last match turns into at least 10 more. The variety of cards makes deck building a lot of fun. I’m enjoying figuring out which cards pair well with others. Or just making some “whatever” decks and having fun trying to figure things out on the fly. What I really like is this game is NOT pay to win. I haven’t spent ANY money, and I’m just as competitive as someone who did. Even though the season pass contains certain cards within it, they seem to just be cosmetic differences. For example, this season pass has a Carnage card and a Spider-Woman card. I was able to get both of those cards through the normal draw method of acquiring new cards. The only difference is the design. Not the actual stats or special abilities. Can you get access to the materials which ultimately allow you to pull new cards? Yes. But it just makes the process a bit faster. Like I said, I have multiple, competitive decks. I win a lot. And I haven’t paid a thing. I would easily give this game 5/5 stars if not for one thing: the season pass is way too expensive at almost $10. I think $5 or $6 would be acceptable, $10 is a little steep. I could be wrong, but if it was say, $6, you’d probably get twice as many people buying it, giving an extra $2 profit for each purchase. Regardless, I’m enjoying it a lot even without the pass, and I’m looking forward to how the game evolves in the future.

★★★★★ Needs a slight adjustment

I’ve been playing marvel snap consistently for 2 months now and it is very fun! The idea of the game is incredible and I love the creativity you can have within the game. This game has the works of one of the best mobile games of all time, except for one aspect: the luck factor. Of course there is luck in every game and for the most part it doesn’t the gameplay at all. What I dislike about the luck is with the collection. I haven’t had an issue with collecting series 3 cards since I don’t have to worry about potentially collecting another copy of the same card. But the same can’t be said about series 4 and 5 cards. When you open a spotlight cache, there is a chance to get one that isn’t in the spotlight which I like. What I dislike is how those cards have the chance to be one of the series 4 and 5 cards that you already have. And these random ones are the worst in the game. I have collected Kang 3 times out of 25+ other series 4 and 5 cards I still need to collect. The odds of this happening are so low and it makes no sense why my luck is this bad. I have also collected 2 kitty prydes and 2 hit monkeys which is super disappointing. For compensation they give you 1000 collectors tokens which don’t even mean much to me at this stage since I don’t even have all the series 3 cards so I need to get those. This is the only problem to me which might seem like me just ranting but it really discourages me from continuing to play this game.

I started the game about a year ago and so it took me awhile to collect a lot of cards. Im collection level 6,000 which I think is pretty good for somebody who spent no money on this game. Because it feels like that’s the only way to get cards now. Basically if you don’t know there are 5 types of cards pools Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 which you all get with naturall progression. But series 4/5 you have to get these things called collectors tokens. There are also things called snap packs where you open this pack and get 1 card of that Series pool you haven’t unlocked yet. Right now im missing 60 series 5 cards and about 10 Series 4 cards. Not including the ones that just released. It costs 4000 tokens for a Series 5 pack and 2000 for a Series 4 pack. Let me show you the math if you had no gold and no tokens but you wanted a new Series 5 card so you bought gold with REAL money to buy tokens to buy that new shiny card it would cost you a little bit less than 100 dollars. I’m not kidding for a card. I did the math and for 5000 tokens you need 6500 gold and the highest option is 8,000 the one below that is 3850. So technically if you buy multiple gold bundles maybe you could get it for cheaper. And also about 100 dollars times 60 is 6000 dollars!!! JUST TO UNLOCK ALL THE CARDS IN ONE TIER. Not including Series 4 or the new ones that just released or the upcoming ones that all cost upwards of 100 dollars and don’t even get me started on kid omega. PLEASE MARVEL SNAP READ THIS, THIS GAME IS AMAZING BUT ITS BECOMING PAY TO WIN!!!

★★★★★ Suggestions for Improvement

Love the game, I just have a few suggestions that I forgot to put on the player survey: 1. There should be XP rewards/credits given for just playing the game (ex. Wins, losses, etc). The way it currently is I am incentivized to put the game down for hours to wait for missions (when I actually want to keep playing). Having this would still prevent “pay to win” because you still have to put time into the game to get rewarded. 2. There should be an “unranked mode” for people to try out new (potentially unviable decks) without having to sacrifice cubes for it. 3. Once you hit every 10th rank (50, 60, 70, etc) you shouldn't be able to demote. It makes it feel much more frustrating and unfun to climb. 4.There should be a reward (perhaps credits or gold) for filling out the new player survey (I have already). This would incentivize more people to do it and make it feel less like a waste of time. 5. I bought the season pass but I don’t feel it to be very rewarding at all because it really didn’t speed up my progression a noticeable amount. Perhaps adding more credits/content? 6. I am currently in Vibranium rank and I find it very hard to keep up with Pool 2+ cards with my Pool 1 only decks. *To wrap up, most of the changes I would like to see is related to more ways to progress my collection. As someone who also plays Legends of Runeterra, I find the card acquiring system to be much more tedious and too much “wait and grind.” I apologize for the long post, but I love the game and would really want to see it improve and thrive. ★★★★★ We want cards not cosmetics.

I’ll start off buy saying this game is lots of fun but there’s an issue when it comes to acquiring cards especially when your collector level gets higher. I have to spend credits (that take forever to earn or can be paid for) or gold (that take forever to earn or can be paid for) to upgrade my cards and open Collector’s Reserves and they don’t even guarantee new cards you don’t own yet. If you just happen to get collector’s tokens from the Collector’s Reserves you only get 100 and the cards in the shop cost approximately 5000 of them. There is clearly a huge incentive to pay for gold and credits in order to attempt and acquire new cards but yet it’s still not guaranteed even if you spend your hard earned money. We don’t want to have to play or pay to potentially earn titles or cosmetic variants (especially for cards we don’t use) from these packs that cost tons of credits to achieve. I think it makes much more sense that you should earn cards for increasing your collection level, and then be able to get cosmetics from Collector’s Reserves after you have obtained all the cards in the game. The only guaranteed way to earn cards are the Spotlight Caches which equals 1 cache every 120 collectors levels (It costs $30-$35 just to upgrade a card from common to infinity which would get you 31 levels so you would have to pay minimum $120 just to get a guaranteed card)
