84/100

Merchant of the Skies is a wonderfully unique experience that feels like a cross between 'Animal Crossing' and a heavy-duty economic sim. It has a 'cozy' vibe that makes you want to curl up and play for hours, but it also gives you enough charts and numbers to satisfy your inner capitalist. Finding a new island with a rare resource you desperately need is a genuine thrill.

The UI transition to mobile is impressively handled; dragging your airship across the clouds feels natural, and the menus are clear and legible. It's the kind of game that rewards curiosity; you never know if the next floating rock will have a giant singing carrot or a high-tech factory. It's imaginative, peaceful, and deeply satisfying to watch your tiny trading enterprise grow into a cloud-spanning empire.

Dinsun Review

Dinsun here. I have a soft spot for trade sims, and Merchant of the Skies captures that 'one more route' feeling quite well early on. The pixel art is charming, and the world-building is quirky enough to stay interesting. Building up your base and seeing your trade empire flourish is genuinely satisfying.

The problem is the endgame—or lack thereof. Once you've figured out the optimal routes and built your automated systems, the game basically plays itself. There’s no real threat or secondary layer of challenge to keep you engaged once the coffers are full. It’s a great 10-hour experience that fizzles out right when it should be getting complex. Good, but could have been great with more depth.
