Demon Castle Story is a masterpiece of modern retro-gaming. It captures the 'Metroidvania' feel of the 16-bit era with hauntingly beautiful pixel art and a soundtrack that would feel right at home on a classic console. The movement is tight and responsive, which is essential for the challenging platforming sections and boss fights. I loved how the game handles the whip mechanics—it’s not just an attack, but a tool for navigation as you unlock new ways to interact with the environment.

The castle itself is a character, filled with secret walls, hidden power-ups, and branching paths that encourage you to backtrack as you gain new abilities. The difficulty is 'tough but fair'—you will die, but you'll always understand why and feel driven to try again. The inclusion of multiple endings and hidden sub-weapons gives the game a lot of replay value that many mobile platformers lack. If you grew up with the Belmont family, this game is an absolute love letter to that legacy.

Dinsun Review

Dinsun here. I have a soft spot for the SNES era, so I wanted to like this more than I did. Demon Castle Story hits the right notes with its pixel art and crunchy chiptunes. It feels like a lost title from 1994. However, the 'modern balancing' they claim is really just a fancy way of saying 'level gating.' You will hit walls where progress stops unless you spend hours grinding the same three floors.

The combat is standard turn-based fare. It doesn't innovate, which is fine, but it also doesn't provide enough tactical variety to keep the grind interesting. The menu navigation is a bit clunky on a touchscreen—this really should have been a console or PC title. It’s a decent effort for a mobile RPG, but it respects your nostalgia more than it respects your time. It’s okay for a train ride, but don't expect a deep narrative masterpiece.

Demon Castle Story is a love letter to classic 'Castlevania-style' games. You play as a warrior equipped with an enchanted whip and sub-weapons, exploring a sprawling, non-linear castle. As you defeat bosses, you gain new abilities—like double jumping or turning into mist—which allow you to access previously unreachable areas.
