Pocket Academy is another masterclass in management simulation from Kairosoft. It captures the charm and obsessive 'just five more minutes' loop that the developer is known for, this time tasking you with building and running a high school. The pixel art is as adorable as ever, but don't let the cute visuals fool you—the simulation is deep. You have to balance facility upgrades, teacher salaries, and student clubs to ensure your pupils graduate with top grades.
The true joy of the game comes from watching your students' lives unfold. You'll see them find love at the lockers, study hard in the library you just built, and eventually head off to their dream careers based on the education you provided. It’s a heartwarming and incredibly rewarding experience. Like all Kairosoft games, the UI is perfectly optimized for one-handed mobile play, making it the perfect companion for a commute or a quiet evening on the couch. It’s a top-tier sim that fans of the genre shouldn't miss.
Kairosoft has a specific brand of digital crack. I’ve played nearly all of their 'Story' and 'Academy' games, and while they all start to feel the same after a while, they are masterfully paced. Pocket Academy is no different. There’s something immensely satisfying about watching your little pixel students fall in love or pass their exams because you built a library. It’s management light—you aren't going to be stressed about spreadsheets, but you will be stressed about where to put the new tennis court.
My issue is that once you’ve figured out the 'combos' (placing certain buildings together for bonuses), the game basically plays itself. It starts slow, and the late game is just a lot of waiting for money to roll in so you can buy the next upgrade. It’s the perfect 'watching TV' game—enough to keep your hands busy but not so much that it requires your full brain. It’s cute, it’s competent, and it’s better than 90% of the management sims on the store, but don't expect it to surprise you if you've played a Kairosoft game before.
Performance: Perfectly optimized; saves automatically and loads instantly.
Buy if: You love management sims and 'cute' aesthetics.
Skip if: You want a serious, complex simulation like SimCity or Civilization.
Available on: iPhone, iPad, iPod

Keep an eye on individual student stats. If a student is struggling, assign them a better teacher or upgrade the facilities they use most to help them reach their potential.
Winning school festivals and having students win regional competitions are the fastest ways to boost your popularity and attract more students.
