NikNax is a wonderful trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up with an Amiga or a Commodore 64. It’s a classic brick-breaker through and through, but it’s executed with such specific retro flair that it stands out from the crowded App Store. The pixel art and the 'crunchy' sound effects are exactly what you'd expect from a 90s arcade hit.

The level design is where the game shows its teeth. It starts off easy, but quickly introduces complex patterns and bosses that require real precision. The power-ups are varied and fun—getting the laser paddle is always a highlight. It doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just polishes the wheel until it shines. If you want a straightforward, satisfying arcade experience that feels like it was unearthed from a 1992 floppy disk, NikNax is it.

Dinsun here. I’ve been playing Breakout since the Atari 2600. If you’re going to release a brick-breaker in this day and age, you either need to bring something revolutionary to the table or execute the classic style with perfection. This game does neither. It’s competent—the physics work and the power-ups are standard fare—but there’s no soul here. The neon aesthetic is a bit tired, and the level design feels generated rather than crafted. It’s fine for five minutes at a bus stop, but I can’t see why anyone would choose this over the dozens of more creative 'Breaker' games available for the same price.
