I've seen plenty of these 'dice simulators' over the last twenty years, and Phone Dice doesn't do much to distinguish itself from the pack. It performs the basic task of generating a random number through a physics-based visual, which is fine if you've lost your physical D20, but it lacks any mechanical depth or reason to engage with it outside of necessity. The physics are adequate, but they don't feel 'weighty' enough to satisfy a veteran tabletop player.
As a gamer who values complex systems and deliberate design, I find these bare-bones utilities difficult to score as entertainment. It’s a tool, plain and simple. It lacks the polish of a premium app and the charm of a physical set. In an era where mobile devices can run full-scale RPGs, a simple dice roller feels like a relic of the early App Store days.
