Piano Master is a surprisingly robust rhythm game that manages to feel like a real instrument rather than just a button-tapping exercise. The song library is the real star here, featuring a fantastic mix of classical staples and contemporary hits. Unlike other piano apps that feel laggy, the latency here is nearly non-existent, which is crucial for faster pieces like Flight of the Bumblebee.
I particularly appreciate the 'Practice Mode' which allows you to slow down the tempo. It transforms the app from a game into a genuine learning tool. Whether you're a pianist looking to keep your fingers moving while away from your keyboard, or a complete novice who just likes the music, Piano Master provides a polished and rewarding experience.
Let's be clear: playing this won't make you a pianist. As a 'game,' itβs okay. It follows the standard falling-note template weβve seen for decades. The selection of classical music is excellent, but the touch response on a screen is inherently flawed for something as nuanced as piano. Thereβs no haptic feedback, no velocity sensitivity that matters, and it often feels like youβre just tapping glass to a MIDI file.
The UI is a bit cluttered, and the difficulty spikes are inconsistent. Some 'Easy' tracks have bizarre rhythmic quirks, while 'Hard' tracks just throw more notes at you without regard for how a human hand actually moves. Itβs a fine distraction for a commute, but if you actually want to learn music, buy a keyboard. If you just want to tap along to Fur Elise, this is adequate, but uninspired.
Performance: Audio sync can drift on older hardware; requires calibration.
Buy if: You love classical music and want a casual rhythm game for your phone.
Skip if: You are a trained musician or expect high-fidelity rhythm mechanics.
