Populus Run is weird. It’s got this 'Katamari Damacy' meets 'Subway Surfers' vibe that shouldn't work, but mostly does. Controlling a mob of people as they run through a world of giant donuts and soda cups is a nice break from the self-serious garbage I usually see. The music is legitimately catchy—a rarity in mobile games where I usually mute the sound within ten seconds.
That said, it’s still a runner at heart. The mechanics are limited, and once the novelty of the 'crowd' mechanic wears off, you’re left with the same twitch-based dodging we've been doing since *Temple Run*. It’s polished, it’s fun for a while, and it doesn't feel like it’s trying to steal my credit card info every five minutes because of the Arcade subscription model. It’s a 'B' grade game that’s elevated by its sheer weirdness.
