Smash Up: The Digital Edition is a fantastic translation of the beloved 'shufflebuilding' tabletop game. As a fan of the physical card game, I was impressed by how well the faction mechanics were preserved. The core hook—smashing together two disparate factions like Ninja-Zombies or Pirate-Dinosaurs—is just as chaotic and fun on mobile as it is on the table. Each faction has distinct mechanics that require totally different strategies, making every 40-card deck feel unique.
Technically, the game offers a solid cross-platform multiplayer experience, allowing you to challenge friends regardless of their device. The inclusion of a tutorial system and 'step-through' modes is a great touch for newcomers who might be overwhelmed by the myriad card interactions. While the UI can occasionally feel a bit busy due to the complex nature of the board state, the ability to play a quick round against the AI or jump into a global leaderboard match makes this a great way to get your Smash Up fix on the go.

Success in Smash Up depends on how your two factions interact. For example, Zombies are great at bringing cards back from the discard pile, which can complement factions that rely on sacrifice or high-frequency play. Always read your cards carefully before committing to a base.

You only win points when a base's breakpoint is met. Sometimes it’s better to let an opponent do the heavy lifting of placing power on a base, then use an action card to swoop in at the last second and claim the top reward.
