Solitaire Zoo successfully marries the classic card game with a light-hearted town-building mechanic. If you've played titles like Fishdom or Gardenscapes, you'll know the drill: win rounds of solitaire to earn currency, which is then spent on rescuing animals and decorating various zoo habitats. The solitaire itself is primarily 'TriPeaks' style, which is fast-paced and lends itself well to the 'streak' mechanics that reward you for clearing multiple cards in a row.

The animal animations are adorable, and there's a genuine sense of accomplishment as you turn a barren enclosure into a thriving home for pandas or lions. The game does lean into the typical 'lives' and 'boosters' monetization, which can be frustrating when you hit a particularly difficult layout. However, the difficulty curve is generally fair, and the frequent events provide plenty of free bonuses. It’s a perfect 'cozy' game for anyone who wants a little more purpose behind their daily card games.

We’ve reached the point in mobile gaming where developers are just throwing darts at a board of 'Classic Games' and 'Cute Things' to see what sticks. 'Solitaire Zoo' is the result of 'Solitaire' hitting 'Zoo.' The Solitaire part is exactly what comes with Windows—it’s fine, it’s functional, it’s hard to mess up. But the 'Zoo' part is barely a game. You click a button, a 2D image of a tiger appears in a pre-set spot, and that's it.

There is no management here. No feeding animals, no arranging paths, no logic to the zoo building. It’s just a skin for a currency sink. My 40-year-old brain remembers when Solitaire was something you did because you were bored at the office, not something you played to unlock a virtual giraffe. The ads are constant, often popping up between every single hand. If you really want to play Solitaire, use the version that doesn't try to sell you 'star packs' to build a digital cage.
