Minimalism can be a great design choice, but in Tiles Survive, it feels more like a lack of budget. I understand the 'bullet heaven' craze, but part of the fun in games like Vampire Survivors or Brotato is the goofy characters and the visual chaos. Here, you’re just a square dodging other squares. It’s mechanically competent—the upgrade paths are actually fairly well-thought-out—but it’s so dry.

There’s no personality here. As a guy who’s been playing games since the Atari days, I appreciate a simple aesthetic, but this feels clinical. It’s like playing a spreadsheet with icons. If you’re a purist who only cares about the math of a build and nothing else, you might enjoy this. But for me, it’s a bit too boring to look at for more than a few minutes. It’s proof that mechanics alone don't always make a compelling game.
