Our Site Score

98/100

To the Moon is not just a game; it is a profound emotional experience that stays with you long after the credits roll. It tells the story of two doctors who use a technology to enter the memories of a dying man to fulfill his final wish. That wish? To go to the moon. The catch is that he doesn't know why he wants to go there.

Technically, it uses a classic RPG Maker aesthetic, but don't let the 16-bit graphics fool you. The writing is world-class, blending sharp wit with heartbreaking sincerity. The soundtrack, primarily composed of hauntingly beautiful piano melodies, is the heartbeat of the game. There is no combat and very few puzzles—this is a pure, story-driven narrative. If you are looking for a game that will make you laugh, cry, and think deeply about the nature of regret and love, To the Moon is an essential masterpiece.

Dinsun Review

I don't usually go for 'walking simulators' or RPG Maker games, but To the Moon is something special. Let’s be clear: the 'gameplay' is almost nonexistent. You walk around, click on a few objects, and solve a couple of kindergarten-level puzzles. If you’re looking for combat or complex systems, you are in the wrong place.

But the writing? It’s exceptional. It’s one of the few games that has actually made me feel something meaningful. It handles heavy themes like grief, neurodivergence, and regret with a level of maturity that most AAA games can't touch. The soundtrack is also incredible—simple piano melodies that stay with you long after the credits roll. It’s a short experience, but it’s a powerful one. It’s less of a game and more of a visual novel, and as such, it’s one of the best on the platform.

Bug Fix

A story-driven experience about two doctors traversing backwards through a dying man's memories to artificially fulfill his last wish.

ABOUT THIS GAME

Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts have peculiar jobs: They give people another chance to live, all the way from the very beginning... but only in their patients' heads.

Due to the severity of the operation, the new life becomes the last thing the patients remember before drawing their last breath. Thus, the operation is only done to people on their deathbeds, to fulfill what they wish they had done with their lives, but didn’t.

This particular story follows their attempt to fulfill the dream of an elderly man, Johnny. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.
