Great Game
Sat Feb 18 2023 mchacon05From someone who has taken a break from gaming, I really enjoyed playing this game. It’s a survival/ action game with some puzzles and really cool character building. I really enjoyed the abilities you can choose as you level up during the tomb runs and how they can combine to deal heavy damage and AOE. The first chapter/ Tomb was a bit easy for me but the next few were definitely challenging. You can even build manuals (to improve your gear) and craft higher rarity gear, which I liked since it reminded me of past MMORPG games I’ve played. Two drawbacks of the game; there is no dedicated button for your special ability (you have to remember you have it and keep in mind if it’s been recharged) and during stages with lots of enemies, the screen gets very busy with both friendly and enemy projectiles. Despite those, it is definitely a fun game to check out if you have a little bit of time to kill (as a previous reviewer pointed out)
Not made for premium, buggy
Wed Feb 15 2023 Gatorman02This Archero clone appears to be a mirror copy of the IAP version released by Square Enix. The problem with that is that, like most mobile games with predatory IAPs, the game is designed mostly around getting people to spend money rather than the core gameplay. The IAPs were removed from this version, which is certainly nice, though the original IAP structure of the game lingers in an obvious and awkward way. For example, everything is designed for that initial boost followed by the slower and slower grind until the game becomes less and less enjoyable over time (which was originally designed to squeeze out purchases). Despite the purchases being removed, that shallow structure remains. Ultimately my impression is that this a game that could be played until it becomes boring, and then you move on.
With respect to bugs, in roughly 15 minutes of playing I experienced (i) the random disappearance of my equipped weapon (completely gone from my inventory), and (ii) a run attempt get completely stuck midway through, twice. All monsters were dead, but the doors wouldn't open to be able to continue. If you force close the app, you have the option to resume the same challenge, which makes you restart that same level (though your health does not reset each time), and you ultimately have to just quit the run and return home, losing the limited energy spent (another side effect of the game being originally made for predatory IAPs).
Great game with glaring bugs
Mon Feb 20 2023 whitehair250Fun game, however has many bugs. I’ve gotten connection errors around 7 times while playing this game, and when a connection error occurs at the end of a run, all the loot you gained is lost. This makes it very frustrating as later runs can end up taking 20-30 minutes, and loot such as relics are very rare, so having a 10% chance of losing them due to a connection issue with the server(even though I’m in my house) feels awful.
Additionally after completing the first three chapters the difficulty spikes dramatically, leaving me unaware of how to progress other than replay the third chapter over and over again for loot that may or may not disappear.
There are also many visual bugs. The store has a permanent exclamation mark sign next to it. Also, the crafting and items tabs have permanent explanation mark signs next to them, signaling that I had new loot, even after I had my run loot lost- perhaps those exclamation marks would be fixable if I had the loot to upgrade my items with?
Pretty Fun, controls are bad
Wed Mar 22 2023 Defcon106This game is pretty fun, Rougelite gameplay. You need to level up a lot to succeed, but that’s fine. My main gripe is with the controls. They are trash. You can only shoot while you’re standing still and cannot aim, a lot of the enemies are just as fast as you, so you get hit no matter what you do. I guess for the non Netflix version that makes sense so you need to pay or watch ads to continue, but for this version it’s tedious. It feels like this should be a dual stick shooter so you could actually aim at the enemies you want to kill. I’ll be getting chased by two wolves and Laura is shooting at a frog that’s not even on the screen. The only way to switch your aim is to run right next to something and then get hit by it. Maybe it would be too easy if you could actually target the strongest enemies first? I’m really not sure about the logic here unless the devs just got lazy or they want you to die a lot to simulate difficulty.
Grindfest
Sun Apr 09 2023 Seishino8 days into playing, and I’m still 5 levels in of 12 levels total. This is a GRINDfest. You have to replay the same maps for hours to get enough progress to move forward.
This is a de-freemium Netflix version of Tomb Raider Reloaded, which theoretically takes the freemium parts out. However, what it does is take out the ability to buy gems, while keeping the same super slow and grind-ey progression that would require gems. So it’s still at every point trying to squeeze you until you pay for gems, but then it just doesn’t let you pay for gems. It’s just all squeeze.
The technical issues don’t help. There are some really basic UI stuff that is wrong… songs missing, etc. There have been borked events uploaded, But most frustratingly, it crashes pretty consistently (usually on the parts where they mercifully pulled out the commercials for Netflix). Which means if you’re mid-grind, the grind just got however much longer again.
This could be a great game. It needs like 5 times the number of levels, and to progress 5 times faster. It needs real amounts of content, and not just 2 worlds with 12 levels total. It needs to not be as grind-ey as it is. Because there is fun to be had in there, but it’s drowning in its monetization.
Started off well but goes bad as one progresses…
Sun Jun 25 2023 Benjio123!!!I was totally psyched with this game when I first started playing. Lots of collectibles, challenging boss levels, daily/weekly goals, wide range of abilities and weapons etc. The problem starts when you start progressing to the higher levels and come close to completing the game.
The game crashes every-time a chapter run is completed, automatically closing down the app. When I open the app again to resume the game, I’m asked if I’d like to resume the run. If I accept, the game remains in “loading” mode permanently. If I decline, the special weekly rewards are lost. Highly frustrating when I play the lower, less challenging levels just to gain the stickers required to gain points towards upgrading outfits. There’s no other way to upgrade outfits either.
It’s been a fun game but it’s not enjoyable anymore. Customer support has been pretty useless at fixing these issues, just as they have been with other progressive Netflix games.
Fun game, but rage inducing crashes.
Sat Mar 25 2023 RXjorgThis is a fun game, very grindy, but fun. It captures the spirit of Tomb Raider and the game play is enjoyable. However, it suffers from rage-inducing crashes at the end of levels. Which means you can complete 50 stages of a level and suddenly the game crashes and you lose all of your progress for that level. If you want to scratch that Tomb Raider itch and don’t mind feeling like you’ve wasted time when it crashes after a final boss battle, it’s probably worth a look. I appreciate Netflix giving us a chance to play it without micro transactions. But if you want to avoid the frustration dealing with crashes and lost progress, you should look elsewhere.
Update: I gave up and uninstalled. The game crashes far too much for something that relies on grinding and random drops.
Fun but frustrating
Mon Apr 17 2023 DanipogThis game has been long overdue. I really enjoyed it at the start but now it seems impossible to play. Every time I pass any stage either 20 levels or 50, as soon as I beat the last boss and the rewards appear, the game crashes out and gets stuck in a never ending loop of loading. I therefore never collect my rewards and just don’t want to play any longer. Fix the crashes, please! It’s really laggy and the amount of animations and loads and pop up screens whenever you upgrade gear etc is insane and probably leading to the load issues. Also why are there two versions of the game? Anyway. Fun and had a lot of potential. Just frustrating to play through when it crashes literally every time.
Buggier by the update
Mon Jul 17 2023 noahsamTR Reloaded has some great core gameplay, despite the legacy of freemium hurdles from its non-Netflix counterpart, but what is truly insufferable are the constant bugs that riddle the rest of the “experience.” Game menus are so laggy as to be practically unusable, and will frequently crash at the most inopportune times, causing irretrievable item and award loss. The game crashes on less-than rare occasions, and if this occurs during a game run (or even worse, immediately after completing a run), all progress/awards will be lost. So unacceptable! Even worse, these lags and bugs only seem to get WORSE with every update; the game is practically unplayable at this point.
NETFLIX: YOUR NAME IS ON THIS PRODUCT. Put some pressure on the devs to get this game functional!
Constantly glitches
Sat Sep 30 2023 52tonytThe game is constantly glitching. You'll finally beat a boss without getting hit. And the game will freeze and crash. When you open the app again. It will ask if you want to continue. You say yes. And they start the stage over and you'll have to fight the same boss again. Also the game has this glitch where sometimes the enemies are sped up. They go crazy fast and you do everything you can to just dodge them. other times when the game crashes it doesn't even give you the option to continue the chapter it just brings you back to the home screen. And lastly some abilities give you health when you defeat enemies but it will glitch and you won't get the health.
