Trainz Simulator 3 brings a level of fidelity to mobile rail-roading that we haven't seen before. As someone who has played the PC versions for years, I was skeptical about how the complex controls would translate, but N3V Games has done a brilliant job. The 'Driver' mode is accessible but still offers the depth of controlling independent brakes, throttles, and switches. The graphics have seen a significant leap, with more detailed environments and much better lighting effects.

The real heart of Trainz has always been the 'Surveyor' mode, and it's surprisingly usable on a tablet. Being able to lay down track and build a custom route while sitting on your couch is incredibly cool. The library of locomotives is already impressive, and the promise of more content via the store makes this a long-term hobbyist's dream. It’s the most complete and polished train simulator on the App Store right now, bar none.
