Our Site Score

91/100

Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade is a spectacle of destruction. Controlling an Imperial Knight feels appropriately heavy and powerful. The way you tap to fire heavy bolters and swipe to unleash thermal cannons is incredibly intuitive and makes you feel like a true pilot of a god-machine.

The graphics were ahead of their time when it launched and still look fantastic today, especially the detailed armor customization. While it does have some free-to-play elements like crafting timers and gear upgrades, the core gameplay loop of stomping through Orks and Chaos forces is so satisfying that it’s easy to look past the monetization. It’s a must-play for 40k fans.

Dinsun Review

I’ve spent plenty of time painting miniatures, so I have a high bar for anything carrying the Warhammer 40,000 name. Freeblade is surprisingly respectful of the source material. The sense of scale is handled well; you truly feel like a lumbering god of war stepping over rubble. The visuals were industry-leading at launch and still hold up quite well today, capturing the grimdark aesthetic perfectly.

Mechanically, it’s a rail-shooter, which is a bit of a letdown for someone who prefers full tactical control. You’re essentially on a guided tour of destruction. While the tapping and swiping for different weapon systems is responsive, it can feel like a glorified tech demo after the fifth hour. The monetization is also typical of its era—lots of currencies and upgrade timers that nudge you toward the store. It’s a good game, but it lacks the strategic depth I usually look for in a 40k title. It's more about the spectacle than the soul.
