First Review
Tue Feb 09 2021 G.I.T.M.This will be the first review of an app I have ever written and very well may be the last. However, I had to take the time out of my day to praise the absolute masterpiece crafted by Rocketcat.
The upmost love and care went into every last piece of this compelling, action-packed, rogue lite adventure. Blood, sweat, and tears went into designing the flawless, tight control scheme. Fast paced and aggressive enemies dwell within the Mines, Tower, Catacomb, and Labyrinth, guarding their secrets and the stories of up to 6 playable classes (a separate dungeon exists for the 7th class). Each comes equipped with a unique play style; customizable via in game upgrades that can shift gameplay drastically.
Although permadeath exists for runs, a robust upgrade system allows you to power up your heroes so they can face the trials again, stronger than ever! Massive replay value lies within the procedurally generated dungeon maps and enemy placement, and each dungeon has its own boss lying in wait for foolish adversaries. Collectors will have their hands full obtaining the multitude of hats stashed away in the dungeons.
All in all, I can genuinely say, as an avid gamer, wayward souls is one of my favorite titles hands down, with endless hours of content, charming graphics, engaging gameplay, and rewarding progression systems. 11/10 would recommend!
Absolutely Amazing!
Thu Sep 14 2017 Overlord LenoraI don't review products very often (mostly because I'm too lazy to do so) but THIS deserves a review with a 10-star rating! The gameplay is quite difficult but addicting; I get frustrated and leave for a while, sure, but I always come back to it. The music is beautifully eerie, too. I eagerly chase new pieces of story that emerge with each playthrough; even something as small as a conversation of two ghosts about one of the Saints statues gives you more info about the world, and I keep finding new tidbits despite having played the levels likely hundreds of times by now! I accidentally missed one by killing the speaker before they finished, and I still regret it. This game builds a true world, which you soon realize the story you're following is only a small part of. Amazing in every way- I could not give constructive criticism even if I tried. It's absolutely worth your money if you like beautiful music, interesting stories and world-building, and challenging but addicting dungeon crawlers (real-time ones, that is). Try this out- if you like these things, you won't regret it!
Amazing Game
Wed May 08 2019 Anonymous M4NIts a wonderful work. The gameplay is hard but fair. Soundtrack is very nice and compelling to listen to. Not a game for those who are looking for a quick experience or easy gameplay. The story building elements used in the game are fantastic and just about everything involved in the gameplay builds a unique world worth expiriencing. Some neat references via hat system and comedic or interesting random events that further enhance your gameplay and the overall story. It can be frustrating when you get stumped at a certain part or certain enemies give you trouble and whem that happens I take a break for a while but I always want to come back and return refreshed to keep going and manage to figure out the enemy and keep progressing. Loads of hours sunk into it and theres still much more to be done. Definitely worthy of 5 stars.
It's disappointing for me
Mon Sep 25 2017 Johnn537This Game is a spin off of Mage Gauntlet.
Cons
-restart character for each level area
-lose pets at each restart
-thumbs cover up bottom corners of screen
-Mage can't shoot at a diagonal, but enemies can
-can see anything without being in a dark room or brightness all the way up
-Grinding
Pros
-nice music
-Neat story
-Lore in ghost interactions, and environment
This game is a spin off of Mage Gauntlet (MG). I was really hoping for a sequel to MG, but was still excited when this came out. Turned out to be a let down, mainly because the lack of a story driven game.
Wayward reuses the enemies from MG. Same attack patterns; same design; same feel. There's a few new.
Still have to grind to level up. You do this by grinding for coins to buy upgrades for the characters. Each of which must replay through the areas you've already beaten. Which is a bit annoying but makes sense in the regard that you have to beat the areas with each character to progress each characters story.
Each new level (mines, tower, etc.) resets your characters amor and weapons upgrades. So when to beat the mines expecting to continue on to the tower, you instead are kicked out to the start menu and are forced to start the next area with crap gear again. This includes pets.
The colors are dark making it hard to see outside.
The Mage character can't shoot diagonal but the enemies can. This is a big disappointment for me cause I like the mages/archer builds in game
Amazing- but
Sat Apr 14 2018 💥Pow dude💥There hasn’t been an update in a whole year and I’m a bit disappointed as the paladin seemed quite fun to play as shown from the tutorial stage, and they have yet to release him as I’m writing this in 2018. The entire game is astonishingly fun, and the diverse weapons and abilities plus the randomized upgrades are very entertaining since sometimes your upgrades aren’t what you’d like and you have to adjust to them. The bosses are well made, and the difficulty stacks up against even Dark Souls in my opinion. The third gold level is greatly difficult and I have yet to clear it, having only reached floor 7 of the Catacombs. But that doesn’t stop me due to the randomly generated floors which leads to a ton of fun. I’d give this 15 stars if I was able to.
Favorite mobile game of all time
Sat Feb 06 2021 Lingrush24First played it years ago and got hopelessly addicted. The short sessions, quick fighting with fluid controls, interesting upgrade choices, variety of quirky characters, and random rare encounters kept me coming back for more. It was challenging but fair; most calamity could be avoided by knowing the enemy patterns, and improving my skill over time felt great. Provided months and months of high-quality entertainment.
But I finished the story and the promised update never arrived. Now, the Paladin Update is finally here, and for once I’m happy to have deleted my save. It feels like a brand new game, and I’m going back to finally beat the endgame dungeons.
P.S. If you want a mobile game like Hades, this is the best choice.
Really hard and keep’s getting even more challenging
Fri Sep 07 2018 Don of might 141719I can’t even make it past the catacomb’s at this point. it start’s out easy for me to get past the mines and tower but the catacombs is just too hard and I do not like the fact they added hidden exploding mines you step on the enemies are already hard enough to kill as it is. However if you want a game to challenge you like let’s say dark souls from consoles this is the game for when you die you get to spend your gold on character upgrades which I would say is a MUST have. I like it but I really wish it could get easy enough to make it through the end.....
Worth your money.
Sun Jul 05 2020 SheeplusdogThis game lacks any sort of micro transactions. Once you pay for the game it’s your skill and wits that win the game for you. The music is beautiful and the graphics feel just oh so good, pixel artwork done right in a way that almost screams late SNES. Just a warning:this game does not hold your hand. You will die. Many times.
To the developer: I maintain exceedingly high standards for the games I 5 star, no micro transactions, quality translation, free of bugs. Games that I 5 star should be the quality standard for mobile games. Please continue the top quality work.
Amazing experience
Thu Apr 05 2018 GorativiThis game is so great. After you beat it, you might even get post game depression. The story is awesome, the battles challenging but possible, and some music is just absolutely amazing, like the theme before the final boss and. This game is definitely worth $7.00 but i think its worth at least triple that. There is a variety of gameplay between the heroes and if you beat everything with every character, you could try to defeat the tutorial boss. This game also works on some older devices and was definitely worth the grab. Thanks for such an amazing game!
Well Made But Not For Me
Sun May 28 2023 HopebringerIf you’re generally a fan of Roguelikes, you can stop reading here and hit the Buy button. It’s well crafted and mechanically deep, certainly worth it for a fan of the genre.
But, if you’re like me, this game won’t be the Roguelike to get you into the genre. Despite procedurally generated levels, I found it maddeningly repetitive, without enough progression between runs to feel different or varied. The separate characters played somewhat differently initially but the game felt stale pretty quickly regardless of who you’re playing with.
This isn’t coming from someone who played an hour, died a bunch, and quit. I logged enough hours and made enough progress to say that I think I understand what the game has to offer. It just isn’t for me.
TLDR: if you like Roguelikes and don’t mind replaying the same section repeatedly, it’s a very impressive mobile version of the genre. If you aren’t already sold on Roguelikes, like me, I’d recommend you skip it.
