Oceanhorn 2 is an absolute technical marvel for mobile devices. The graphics are lush and detailed, and the sense of scale when you enter a new region is genuinely impressive. It captures that classic 'Hero's Journey' feeling perfectly, with a great mix of combat, exploration, and those head-scratching environmental puzzles we all love.
While the combat can feel a little stiff compared to high-end console titles, the variety of gadgets and the ability to command your party members adds a layer of strategy that keeps things fresh. It's a massive, earnest adventure that proves mobile games can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with traditional console experiences. If you're a Zelda fan, this is as close to Breath of the Wild as you're going to get on an iPhone.
Dinsun's review: It's clear what they were going for here—a Zelda-like experience on a phone. Visually, it’s impressive, probably the best-looking game on the service. But looks only get you so far. The combat feels a bit floaty, and the companion AI is more of a hindrance than a help sometimes.
I respect the scope, and for a mobile game, the world is remarkably dense. However, I’ve played the classics this game is imitating, and it never quite hits those same highs. It’s a good RPG for people who don't have a console, but for a veteran, it feels a bit like a well-made imitation.
Performance: Requires high-end hardware for 60fps; older devices may struggle with heat.
Buy if: You want a full-scale adventure and don't mind some mechanical jank.
Skip if: You demand tight, precise combat and deep, original storytelling.
Available on: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod
Version 4.1Thu Dec 08 2022
This version introduces performance improvements and bug fixes.
Set a thousand years before the original game, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm takes players on a magical journey through the world of Gaia. As a young Knight, you are joined by Trin, the granddaughter of Arcadia's leader Archimedes, and Gen, a mysterious robot wielding an old samurai weapon. This sequel evolves the series into a full third-person action-adventure, featuring a massive open world, tactical combat, and challenging dungeons that pay homage to classic RPGs like The Legend of Zelda.
