As someone who grew up playing the classic city simulators of the 90s, I was skeptical about how well a 'next-gen' mobile version would hold up. Cityscapes: Sim Builder didn't just meet my expectations—it completely exceeded them. The depth here is staggering. It’s not just about plopping down buildings; it’s about managing the flow of a living, breathing ecosystem. The emphasis on sustainability and green energy feels timely and adds a layer of challenge that previous entries in the genre often lacked.
What truly sets this apart is the interface. Building on mobile can often feel finicky, but the controls here are buttery smooth. Whether I'm laying down a complex highway interchange or zooming in to watch a citizen walk to work, the game feels responsive and intentional. The visuals are crisp and vibrant, capturing that satisfying 'model train set' aesthetic perfectly. If you have an Apple Arcade subscription, this is arguably the best strategic experience on the service. It’s a game that respects your time while providing a deep, rewarding challenge that keeps you coming back for 'just one more' expansion.
Dinsun here. I've seen a thousand of these match-3 'RPGs' come and go, but this one actually respects your time since it's on Arcade. The removal of the predatory gacha mechanics makes it a much cleaner experience, though it reveals the repetitive nature of the core loop quite early. It's solid, competent, but it won't set your world on fire if you've already spent a decade matching colored orbs.
