Being an Inside “Clone” doesn’t matter
Tue Oct 29 2019 F.E.A.R.fan17I understand this game is very similar gameplay wise to Inside and does borrow a few settings maybe a little too much from it. But this game is getting too much heat for something that doesn’t matter. By itself it’s a beautiful game with an impressive score of music with well crafted gameplay and it’s scripted events with monsters and changing environments are very well done. People just need to get over the similarities to Inside and just appreciate the game for how well it’s made. Now one fault is definitely the controls. You end up jumping a lot of the time when simply trying to turn around or just moving forward which can get you killed a lot. Also multiple times throughout the story things like ledges or objects you need to interact with look like there in the background and can cause problems. Overall this is a good game and with the controls tuned better I have very few complaints.
One of The Most Beautiful, Unique, Scary, and Adventurous Games There Is
Tue Mar 24 2020 -RazorsharpStarting with the artwork, it’s gorgeous and flawless. Every little thing has detail and it’s so magical. The ,”northern lights”, towards the end with the translucent boxes amaze me because it truly feels like I’m looking at the actual northern lights.
Then comes the scary part. In the beginning everything made me jump. I was so scared every time I was killed by the monsters. It was very thrilling and it always made my heart jump.
The different adventures that you have to go through are super fun, but it’s slightly repetitive because I saw the same two monsters, but then came the robots and lasers, which was great.
The music is breathe taking. The music is probably one of my favorite parts about the game. I would love to listen to the music even though it ment I would have to leave the game on, but of course I don’t because it waists battery.
Overall, this game is just one of the best I have played. I’ve been waiting for a game like this since the last one I played which was almost a year ago. Every time I tried to download a game that seemed like it would be this adventurous, it was a turn down. This game is stunning. 10/5 for me
A great game!
Tue Dec 03 2019 H.A. JosephThis game is beautifully made. Each setting is backed by extreme contrast and marked with its own area specific monster. While there are some similarities between this game and INSIDE, Stela holds its own against it.
Atmospherically, the game really stands out. It has a very dark feel; one that is eerily quiet in some places, and disturbingly loud in others. It lingers with you, a sense of unease. From the beginning until the end, you’re uncertain of who this protagonist is and if they will even survive this ordeal.
On a technical standpoint, this game also delivers. It is a very fluid experience. The frame rate is stable and the game is consistent throughout; however, the only drawback would be the controls. While they are meant to be simplistic, sometimes they are just clunky. Numerous times I had to restart segments due to a lack of proper control. Despite this, it didn’t detract from my experience with the game, which is positive.
Overall, this is a beautifully made game. The locations, lighting, and color schemes seem to set a mood — they’re more than just colors. Hidden within each location, there lies an emotion the developers are trying to convey to the player. While some will overlook them, others will not. And although some will call this an “INSIDE clone!” rest assured it is not. In fact, while it may be similar, it has many of its own merits — including a satisfying and even philosophical ending. Stela is, simply, a gem of a game.
Puzzles shouldn’t be about controls
Mon Jan 06 2020 HagcrcusnvkgThere were one too many (and one is too many) times where a situation was difficult because it was unclear how the controls were supposed to work, instead of being unclear how to solve the puzzle.
In both the situation where you had to hide inside the vertical tree and the situation where you had to turn the wheel it was clear what you were supposed to do but unclear how to do it; it seemed clear that you were supposed to jump or climb up to hide in the tree, but after trying and dying several times I concluded that the tree couldn’t be climbed, so I tried a bunch of other things for a long time, only to eventually — and I’m still not sure how — have the climbing work after all; and it’s obvious that we’re supposed to turn the wheel until we can run inside the gate, but the little guy won’t let go of the wheel when I try to run for the gate, instead he keeps turning and turning the thing until it’s too late and he gets hit by the cinders, and after trying it too many times, that’s where I’m giving up.
I love a good puzzle and I hate struggling with controls.
Love it, but hate it..
Fri Mar 13 2020 KSwizzelDI love these horror runner games! I loves Inside and this is great to play since I’ve beat other games that are similar BUT this game is too difficult to control. I’m in the very beginning of it and where you have to knock down (I think a hay bale?) she just WOULD NOT grab onto the object to knock it down so I gave up. Months later, I returned to it and I was able to do it first try so whatever, moving on, I get to where you’re sliding down those two big hills and enter inside a building where you jump on top of hay and close the sliding door, WELL, it is not letting me jump off or walk off or anything of that matter to close this door, she just walks off the hay, into these bugs and I’ve tried NUMEROUS times over and over and over again!! I’ve tried just standing on the hay and jumping and that works but it will not allow me to jump off of the hay bale to grab onto the handle of the door and close it so I’m stuck again ALREADY. I don’t know if it’s my phone or what but I really like this game and would love to move on from this spot ):
Didn’t like it!
Tue Oct 15 2019 8bit_ghostY’all, I didn’t want to go to the base of Inside comparisons but after playing it’s pretty noticeable. But away from that, it’s just...it doesn’t stick the landing, barely makes the jump (like me, repeatedly, playing this game, because controlling this game is way more trouble than it’s worth). I wanted to find interesting things to connect the dots with the...story? But it was far too incoherent. And I tried my BEST to make connections, but it just doesn’t make sense y’all. Visuals were nice...sometimes, but other times it was unbelievably bad looking (too washed out too dark too...empty). Music was good at times but sometimes it felt a bit repetitive. Ending sequence felt like it was meant to be this big epic moment but I legitimately just couldn’t tell what was happening (and also again, controls, I fell to my death over and over from what should have been a perfect landing only to stumble off the edge for no reason). But yeah. All in all, not really that great of a game. Sorry y’all! Glad you managed to get that Apple Cash TM though, hope it helps make something a bit more polished next time.
I wish I could give 4.5 stars
Sat Jan 30 2021 The cute onesOverall, this game is amazing. Beautiful and haunting graphics and soundtrack. It’s a gorgeous game that can be kind of scary at time, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t jump once or twice, but the adventure and puzzles are challenging enough without being burning, but still simple enough to get without a walkthrough. The only complaint I have would be the controls because the character does run a bit slow and it gets annoying at times, but also jumping and pulling functions are a little bit wonky. But I thank the creators for their time and energy put into this game because you can really tell that it was created with heart and care. It took me about 4, possibly 5 hours to complete, I don’t know if that’s fast or slow, but if you are looking to be captivated by an enticing adventure for a few hours, this game is a good option. Loved it!
Beautiful Game
Sat Dec 05 2020 AnnaBanana48This is the first game I have reviewed, and I must say, this game is phenomenal. The controls feel a bit wonky at first and take some getting used to for touch screen. However, for me, that did not detract from the game at all. I found this game to be marvelous. The art was fantastic, and the puzzles were complex. I enjoy the puzzles that aren’t super obvious but can still be figured out within a reasonable amount of time. They were tricky but not impossible.
I know some people did not like the game design of some paths not being obvious, but I think it was a great part of the game. It prevented the game from being a boring, linear path. It added depth and complexity. None of my deaths or struggles felt cheap. It was all fair.
All in all, I think this game was one of the best games I have ever played. I cannot wait to play it again.
Criminally Underrated
Mon Oct 03 2022 Pd8281This game is unfairly and simply criminally underrated. If you love Inside and Limbo, you’ll love this one. The controls are no way as bad as some reviews have made it out to be. I kept waiting to experience the issues others did and never had a single issue. Any “control” issue I had was just simply the result of playing a game on the phone with touch screen. This is expansive and engaging and I loved it. I’m a big fan of these sort of games and the puzzles. My one fault is they were maybe too easy and a little simplistic but the soundtrack was amazing and graphics were too notch. Didn’t want the game to end. Much like Inside and Limbo though, it’ll take you a bit to figure out what’s going on. But that’s the joy in playing these games IMO. Give this one a chance.
This should be a great game, but it isn’t
Mon Mar 14 2022 WrongPandaThe artwork is beautiful. The scenes are breathtaking. Sadly, Stela suffers from very uneven gameplay. A lot of reviews compare Stela to Playdead’s Inside and they are right to do so. Inside is beautifully balanced in terms of story, puzzles, and moments of danger. Stela has mastered none of that. You just die a lot. Some sequences last way too long and are repetitive. As always, the artists deliver a gorgeous visual experience. The gameplay is woefully under considered. Stela seems completely blind to gameplay experience. Being constantly killed is not fun. I get that you want me to figure out the puzzle, but I don’t have any understanding of your universe! About three quarters of the game through, you begin to understand that everything is a trap (whatever) then at the end is a Rubik’s Cube puzzle? The whole experience is delight mixed with aggravation. It’s like having dinner with a really attractive person who’s annoying the whole time.
