Great game but has an annoying bug
Sat Jun 15 2024 Tala-PaigeI’ve had this game for awhile now and I do honestly love it. I play it all the time in my spare time. However, it has one very annoying bug that keeps happening. I’ve tried sending a message to support and gotten no response. But there are mini challenges that pop up where you collect things (water drops, stars, feathers, etc) while you’re playing the levels.
MULTIPLE times now it shows that I have 1-day and however many hours left in the challenges. I’ll close out of the app to go do something and got back in and it tells me I’m out of time. Earlier I had one to collect water drops to make a flower; it told me I had 1-day and 1-hour left. I played some levels and then had to go about getting some work done. I just went back in on a break and it tells me I’m out of time but it talks about feathers! This is very annoying and disheartening, especially when this is like the 4th or 5th time it’s happened in the last couple months.
SO MANY ADS IT LAGS
Tue Apr 30 2024 RoseBisou5Let me say I enjoy the game itself. I play it daily. The puzzles are fun - even if they still aren’t very challenging as of level 193. ****My issue is the ABSURD amount of ads. I’d give it 5 stars if not for that. I do understand the reason for ads. But one at the end of every level + one before you start the next is bad enough. Like just one in between should suffice but whatever I’ll watch two in a row... But several “Ad Breaks” throughout while you’re in the middle of a puzzle on top of that? WHY? That’s just too much. The ads slow the game down massively. Sometimes it will crash and restart a puzzle I was nearly done with or it’ll lag so badly I have to relaunch the app. It’s also very annoying and distracting when you’ve got a train of thought going solving a puzzle, you’re trying to enter in a letter and suddenly an ad breaks in and it’s like 10 mins long and when it’s finally over you don’t even remember what you were doing! Bug to fix: Could the timer please stop when you close the app or close your phone? I can’t always finish a puzzle before I stop playing. The timer will keep going - sometimes all night and then say it took me 12 hours to complete the puzzle - which throws off my average time. It’s not the biggest deal in the world but if you’re going to have a feature in your app it might as well work properly.
Cool idea bad execution
Sat Dec 09 2023 QuantumQuackThe idea seems really unique and cool but whether it is a flaw in design or the nature of the puzzle many puzzles are literally unsolvable without blind guessing and hints. You are often left in a position where you are effectively playing hangman but unlike hangman you have to guess the letter and where it goes to get confirmation. Ive had multiple puzzles where it started with only 2 letters and both were already completed so i had no possible way of placing a single letter without random guessing. You can do minesweeper deduction logic where you make assumptions and see if they make sense but without the ability to play letters in the wrong spot instead of just being told you are wrong that is impractical. If i could turn autocheck off it would be an alright puzzle game but with it on the game is just a lot of random guessing or watching ads for hints to get an actually reasonable number of starting letters.
Above all that the ads are so intrusive trying to navigate the menu to pick a category requires watching sometimes 4+ ads in a 30 second period. Thats not a huge problem though because if the game is good i would just pay to remove ads but its not so its not worth it.
Great game with one major frustration
Tue Jul 16 2024 bostonturnerI like cryptograms and this game delivers some interesting ones. It has some fun gameplay by giving you a few letters here and there, and locking out other letters. The ads are not terribly disruptive. The design is good, decent aesthetics, fun, events and challenges. Unfortunately, there is a very important function missing. When you guess a letter correctly, I think the player should have the option to automatically fill in the rest of the matching letter spaces. It is frustrating, boring, and takes away from the enjoyment of the game to have to hunt down every single number-letter match that you guessed correctly and manually enter a letter. I guess this drives more ad revenue because if you are off by a single space, you get a life taken away even though you didn’t make an incorrect guess. It’s really frustrating, enough to get me to stop playing the game. I hope, the designers are listening to the feedback.
I’d give 5 stars if…
Wed Feb 14 2024 NoomUser8I’d give 5 stars to this game if it weren’t for the KINDS of ads that come through when I play, and the amount of them.
Don’t misunderstand and think that I wish it were free to play and be ad-free at the same time because I know that’s not how it works.
There is an ad that plays when you launch a puzzle, there is an ad that plays at the end of a puzzle, and sometimes there is an ad that plays when you complete a letter-set. That’s too often. Especially so when the ads break and freeze up the app that I have to close and restart to continue playing.
I have a further issue when ads for apps that are rated 18+ pop up and are unskippable and have no way to report them as inappropriate. I’m pretty sure this game is rated at 12+ so having those kinds of ads makes me wary of playing it in the presence of literally anyone else without worrying that they’ll see it and think that I am into that kind of thing. I tried contacting the devs for this app to tell them directly but my in-game message to them under the ‘contact us’ tab has gone unanswered for nearly 2 weeks.
It is a great game though, challenging but not impossible puzzles and a good variety. Sort out the ads and it’s a 5-star game all the way.
So many ads!
Wed May 15 2024 123teriThis game would have been fun if not for the ads. This is the first app I’ve played that actually broke in to game play to show you an ad. And they’re long ads lasting 2 to 3 minutes. If a game lasts at least 10 minutes, you will have watched something like 6 ads by the time you’ve finished the game. 2 when you start the game, 2 during game play, and 2 more at the end. It’s funny how all the ads you watch claim to be disdainful of “other” apps that use ads, lol! I guess maybe it’s comforting to have verification that these advertisers really do think you’re stupid? On this particular game, the ads are too much.
Update: The ads make the app glitchy. I keep getting kicked out, the game freezes and some of the ads try to force you to interact with them by not allowing you back in the game (I just close the game entirely when those ads pop up. The game is fun and I’d likely buy it if it weren’t for the sleazy marketing strategies. I’m sick of being bombarded by aggressive marketers. I’m gonna try to find an app that feels safe to buy. This one feels treacherous. So long Cryptogram game.
Battery destroyer
Sun Mar 31 2024 GdiyssyiiydOk so I really enjoy playing this game for the most part but it has some glaring flaws that ruin the experience for me. First of all, it absolutely DESTROYS my battery like nothing I’ve ever seen. I can play any other game on my phone off and on all day without issue, but with this game suddenly I’m in low power mode after only a couple rounds. (When it was fully charged all of 2 hours ago). I wish I would’ve played it more before I paid the 5 bucks to remove ads but that’s my bad. Speaking of the 5 bucks to remove ads, that’s a laugh in itself considering you still have to watch 3 minute videos every time you need a hint or need to revive. Which by the way, of all the “mistakes” I’ve made probably 90% of them are actually either the game lagging or clumsy thumbs. So you get 3 chances to clumsily select the wrong letter per round then you get to watch a 3 minute (interactive) video ad each time after that. I understand how mobile games earn their creators money, but this particular setup feels really greedy to me.
Classic game
Mon Nov 27 2023 〽️ell〽️anThis is one of those classic word puzzles that never gets old. This app does a great job with it and has a nice interface that makes it easy and fun. I highly recommend it.
That said, there’s a new feature where it waits until you least expect it and then throws an ad break at you. I don’t think that’s a good move when you have a game that involves concentration. It’s completely jarring and ruins wherever I am in the puzzle. Once I click through and get back to the game, my focus is all off and it takes me another minute to get back into it. It’s particularly bad and might send me looking for one of the many other games that deliver the same puzzles. Short term revenue for a long term loss. If that feature disappears, id give this 5 stars and recommend this to anyone who likes word puzzles.
Liked it but not for seniors
Tue Apr 09 2024 argyleworstedA good game, a bit of a challenge. But there’s one huge overarching problem of poor interface design. The game is FULL of white space, making the digits under the letters too small.
Developers, do you intentionally want to prohibit a portion of you audience? Seniors would never see the tiny digits under the words! As doctors have started suggesting seniors play puzzle and word games to keep their minds sharp, a game like this would be ideal.
There’s plenty of room to make the digits larger— TONS of unused empty space.
If developers are wondering why people download this game, try it and delete it, this is why—- WE CANT SEE THE DIGITS! Not even with reading glasses. Phones are already small screens and when you have a 4 point font you can forget about it. Many people start getting reading glasses in their forties. That’s a lot of people you don’t want to be able to play your game. Fix it, make the digits bigger, and I’d be back.
Almost perfect but not quite…
Fri Mar 08 2024 hnyb_deeThis is a fun game that you can pickup on a whim. It’s very relaxing and I’ve found a lot of quotes I’d never heard before. They’re not always the typical ones you find all over motivational posters in dreary offices. I particularly enjoy the quotes from the daily challenge. I’m not sure if they do this all of the time but so far this year they’ve picked a city to focus on each month. That entire month has quotes from prominent people from that country. I’ve learned quite a bit.
My only complaint is the size of the numbers you read to decode the quotes. I’d like if there was an option to make them larger or maybe just bolder. It can be difficult to read if you don’t have perfect eyesight. For this reason I can’t play as much as I’d like. My eyes get tired after a while.
