FINAL FANTASY DIMENSIONS II in IOS

Our Site Score

88/100

Final Fantasy Dimensions II is a nostalgic trip for fans of the SNES-era JRPGs, but with a modern, mobile-first design. Unlike the first Dimensions, which was episodic and more traditional, Dimensions II focuses on a 'Wave-based' combat system that is much better suited for short bursts of play. The story is a classic 'Time Travel' epic that feels right at home in the FF universe.

The 'Signet' system for abilities allows for a lot of customization, and the character progression is deeply satisfying. The art style is gorgeous, utilizing high-quality 2D sprites that pop on modern screens. It’s a premium experience (no microtransactions after purchase) that offers 20+ hours of gameplay, making it a rare gem in the current mobile market.

Dinsun Review

Square Enix knows how to pull at my nostalgic heartstrings, but they also know how to dilute a brand. Dimensions II feels like a compromise. The story is standard 'save the world from a ancient evil' fare, and while the characters are likable enough, it lacks the gravitas of a real Final Fantasy title.

The battle system is turn-based, which I appreciate, but it feels simplified for short mobile sessions. The 'Signet' system for abilities is okay, but it lacks the depth of the Job system from the first Dimensions or FFV. It’s a decent RPG, but it’s definitely not a must-play. It feels like a premium game that was originally designed to be a free-to-play title, and that DNA is hard to hide.
