Halls of Torment in IOS

Dark Fantasy ARPG roguelike

Our Site Score

94/100

Halls of Torment is a masterclass in the 'survivors' genre, blending the addictive 'bullet heaven' loop with the gritty, pre-rendered aesthetic of 90s ARPGs like Diablo. The mobile port is exceptionally well-handled, with controls that feel tight and responsive even when the screen is literally filled with hundreds of skeletons and demons.

What sets this apart from competitors is the equipment system. Finding loot that persists across runs and can be upgraded at a hub adds a massive layer of meta-progression that makes every 30-minute run feel valuable. The 'Quest' system also guides you toward trying new builds and characters, ensuring the game stays fresh for dozens of hours. It’s dark, punishing, and incredibly rewarding—one of the best games currently available on mobile.

Dinsun Review

This is exactly what I want when I say 'they don't make them like they used to.' Halls of Torment captures that gritty, Diablo 1 atmosphere perfectly. It’s not just about walking around and letting things die; the equipment system and the way traits interact feel much more like a traditional RPG than its contemporaries. It’s a bullet heaven for people who actually like old-school PC gaming.

The progression is meaningful, and the meta-upgrades don't feel like a forced grind. It’s tough, uncompromising, and rewards knowledge of the mechanics. While it owes a lot to Vampire Survivors, it carves out its own identity through its aesthetic and its gear system. This is a rare 80+ from me for a mobile port—it’s just that well-realized.
