Don't let the penguins fool you; this game is mean. I’ve seen friendships end over a well-placed move that strands a penguin on a single ice floe for the rest of the game. It’s a game of area denial and forward planning, and this digital port captures the mechanical purity of the board game perfectly. The HD visuals are crisp, and the animations are charming enough without getting in the way of the strategy.
My biggest complaint? No online multiplayer. In 2026—or even back in 2011—not having a way to play against people remotely is a massive oversight for a strategy game. The AI is decent, but it doesn't compare to the devious nature of a human opponent. It’s a great 'pass-and-play' game for a long flight, but without a lobby system, its lifespan is severely limited. It’s a solid translation of a great game, but it feels unfinished as a digital product.
