I’m generally allergic to match-3 games because they’re usually just vehicles for microtransactions. Shift Shaft is a pleasant exception. It feels more like a tactical board game. Shifting the board to line up matches while simultaneously managing your position relative to enemies requires a decent amount of foresight. It’s actually engaging.
The aesthetic is clean, but a bit minimalist—perhaps too much so for some. It lacks the bells and whistles of a big-budget title, but the core mechanic is solid. It won't keep you hooked for months, but it’s a respectable puzzle game that doesn't try to reach into your wallet every five minutes. A rare breed on mobile these days.
