Subwords is a refreshing spin on the saturated word puzzle genre that feels like a cross between a crossword and a jigsaw puzzle. Instead of hunting for individual letters, you’re piecing together fragments of words based on a specific theme. It’s surprisingly challenging because your brain has to shift from looking for 'cat' to looking for 'cat-' and '-egory'. This layer of complexity keeps it from feeling like just another generic word search.
The UI is exceptionally clean and minimalist, which fits the 'zen' vibe of the gameplay. I particularly enjoyed the variety of categories; they aren't just 'Animals' or 'Fruits', but often include more obscure and interesting trivia-based topics. While it can occasionally feel repetitive in long sessions, it's the perfect 'waiting for the bus' game. It's thoughtful, educational in a light way, and polished enough to stand out in a very crowded market.

Look for fragments that end in common suffixes like '-ing' or '-tion' and work backward. Pay close attention to the category title, as it often contains clues for the longer, more complex words in the grid.
Select syllables or fragments in the correct sequence to form words that fit the level's theme. Once a word is correctly identified, its fragments disappear from the grid until the board is clear.
Yes, if you get stuck, you can use hints to highlight a fragment that belongs to a valid word.
