In an era of overly monetized mobile games, Retro Golf is a breath of fresh air. It’s incredibly chill. The music is lo-fi and relaxing, and the visuals have this charming, clean aesthetic that makes every course a joy to look at.
Don't let the 'casual' label fool you, though. Some of the back-nine holes on the Pro circuit are legitimately devious. You’ll find yourself restarting levels just to find that perfect pixel-perfect line for an Eagle. It's the ultimate 'just one more try' game.
I’ve played enough Pac-Man in my life to last three incarnations, so a 'Battle Royale' version didn't exactly set my heart aflutter. To its credit, the ghost-tagging mechanic is a clever way to keep people engaged after they lose. However, the chaos quickly becomes unreadable. With four players and multiple ghosts flying around, it feels more like luck than skill. The Adventure mode is a nice addition for when you don't want to deal with people, but it’s essentially just a series of tutorials. It’s fun for a few matches at a party, but it lacks the depth of PAC-MAN 99 or the original's purity.
Performance: Very stable; online lag is generally well-managed. Occasional crashes on older devices.
Buy if: You want a quick, competitive game to play with friends on the couch.
Skip if: You're looking for a deep progression system or solo-focused gameplay.
Available on: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod
Version 4.5.1Wed Mar 19 2025
Improvements:
- The game no longer crashes after the tutorial.
- Other bug fixes
Retro Golf: World Tour strips away the complexity of traditional golf sims to focus on pure, arcade fun. Use a simple drag-and-release mechanic to control your power and aim. Travel across stylized courses from the rolling hills of Scotland to the neon skylines of Tokyo. With clever level design featuring moving obstacles and wind variables, getting a Hole-in-One has never been more satisfying.
