Trials of Mana, a hit console game with over 1 million copies sold worldwide, is now available on smartphones. This 3D remake of the classic Mana Series game offers a rich story where the Goddess of Mana seals away eight destructive Benevodons, only for evil forces to attempt their release, plunging the world into chaos. Players choose three of six unique characters, each with intertwining stories, and engage in dynamic real-time combat with aerial and combo attacks. With over 300 abilities, light and dark class systems, and a new Class 4, customize your party for endless replayability. The game features a 60-song soundtrack by Hiroki Kikuta, full English and Japanese voiceovers, and smartphone-specific features like touch controls, auto-target, and auto-battle. New Game Plus mode unlocks additional storylines and harder difficulties like Expert and No Future.
Begin by selecting three of the six playable characters: Duran, Angela, Riesz, Hawkeye, Kevin, or Charlotte. Your main character choice affects the story's perspective. Early in the game, focus on exploring the initial areas like Rabite Forest and Cascade Cavern to familiarize yourself with the combat system. Use the ring menu to manage abilities and items efficiently. Save frequently using the autosave feature or at gold Mana statues.
As you progress, you can switch between light and dark classes at Mana Stones to unlock new abilities and change character appearances. Aim to balance your party with a mix of offensive, defensive, and support roles. For example, pair Duran’s swordsmanship with Angela’s magic for a versatile team. Experiment with the new Class 4 for advanced abilities after reaching higher levels.
The dynamic combat system allows you to evade enemies and perform aerial and combo attacks. Use the auto-target feature to lock onto enemies and chain abilities via the ring menu or shortcut commands. Practice dodging red enemy attack indicators, though note some players report these may not display correctly on certain devices.
The 3D world of Mana is vibrant and filled with secrets. Search for Li’l Cactus to unlock rewards and engage in character flashbacks for deeper story insights. Follow the star guide to avoid getting lost, and use auto-camera for smoother exploration on mobile. Be aware of reported camera shake bugs, especially in areas like Beuca Island.
The game offers four difficulty settings: Beginner, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Beginner allows players to resume at the same spot after a game over, ideal for those focusing on the story or new to action RPGs.
The Apple Arcade version (Trials of Mana+) supports controller input with a dedicated UI. However, the standard mobile version lacks native controller support, though some players use screen mappers as a workaround.
