They call this 'strategy,' but the only thing you’re strategizing is how to spend your time while waiting for a building to finish. Age Breakers takes the complex, rewarding loop of 4X games and boils it down to a series of timers and menus. It’s a spreadsheet with a historical skin, and not a particularly interesting spreadsheet at that.
The combat is automated to the point of irrelevance, and the 'technology tree' is just a linear progression of stat buffs. There’s no room for clever play or unconventional tactics. You just follow the quest markers and wait. I’ve seen better strategy games on a graphing calculator. If you actually enjoy history or real-time strategy, this will feel like a shallow imitation of the real thing.
