Lateres is perhaps the best example of how to do a 'Watch first' game correctly. While many Apple Watch games feel like afterthoughts, Lateres feels built for the wrist. Using the Digital Crown to control the paddle is incredibly intuitive—it actually feels more precise than using a touchscreen for this type of Breakout-style gameplay.
The visuals are retro-chic, using high-contrast colors that pop on the small OLED screen. It’s perfect for those 30-second windows where you’re waiting for coffee or on the elevator. On the iPhone, it’s a solid brick-breaker, but on the Watch, it’s a standout title that justifies gaming on a wearable.
Dinsun here. Playing games on a watch is usually a miserable experience. Most developers try to shove touch controls where they don't belong. Lateres, however, uses the Digital Crown to move the paddle, and I have to admit, it feels right. It’s tactile and precise—much better than I expected.
That said, it’s still a game on a watch. The screen is tiny, it drains the battery, and your arm will get tired after five minutes of holding it up. It’s a neat technical showcase and a decent way to pass a few minutes in a checkout line, but it’s not something you’re going to sit down and 'play.' It’s a novelty, albeit a well-executed one.
Performance: Very responsive crown control; some stuttering on older Series watches.

On the Apple Watch version, don't swipe the screen. Use the Digital Crown for much smoother and more precise movement, allowing you to catch high-speed ball bounces.
Look out for the falling icons. The 'Expand' power-up is your best friend on the small Watch screen, while the 'Multi-ball' is best saved for clearing thick clusters of bricks.
No, Lateres runs natively on the Apple Watch, so you can play even if your phone is in another room or you are using a Cellular Watch model.
