89/100

Love Letter is a rare example of a board-to-mobile port that actually feels better on a screen. The original card game is famous for its '16-card' simplicity, and the digital version retains that tight, tense pacing while adding beautiful animations and a seamless matchmaking system. The goal is simple: have the highest-ranking card at the end of the round to deliver your letter to the Princess, but the deduction required to get there is incredibly deep.

The AI is surprisingly competent, providing a legitimate challenge when you aren't playing against human opponents. However, the real meat is in the ranked ladder. Predicting your opponent's move—knowing they have the Prince because they haven't discarded a high card yet—is immensely satisfying. The developers have done a great job keeping the interface clean and the matches fast. It’s the perfect game for a five-minute break or a long commute.

Dinsun Review

I’ve played the physical version of Love Letter for years; it’s a masterpiece of minimalist design. This app, however, feels like a missed opportunity. It’s functional, but the interface is clunky and it forces a landscape orientation that doesn't suit the quick-play nature of a card game on a phone. The AI is remarkably predictable—once you’ve played ten rounds, you’ve seen every 'tactic' the computer has to offer.

There’s no soul here. The animations are stiff, and for a game about courtly intrigue, the presentation is dry. It’s fine if you absolutely need to play Love Letter on a train, but the experience is far inferior to sitting around a table with actual human beings. It’s a 5-minute game stretched into a 10-minute chore by slow animations and menu transitions.

DRAW, PLAY AND BLUFF, FOR ONLY ONE SUITOR WILL BE ABLE TO WIN THE HEART OF THE PRINCESS

You and other suitors are prepared to do anything to get your love letter to the princess. She's shut herself inside her palace, so you're forced to use go-betweens to deliver the message. Guards, princes, the king, the countess... Who will turn out to be the best ally to help win your beloved's heart?

You only ever have two cards in your hand. Draw and play your cards to get closer to the princess. Everyone staying in the castle could aid you in their own way: guards and princes can help discredit letters from other suitors, priests will give you precious information about your rivals while the handmaiden will protect your letter at any cost!

As the game progresses, you'll have to think strategically, bluff and try to read your opponents' game. When the deck is used up, the card in your hand will be the character holding your letter for the princess. The strongest card, i.e. the character who's closest to the princess, wins!

Send the other suitors packing, gain the advantage and win the game. Let's get started!
