Worms Across Worlds successfully recaptures the magic of the legendary artillery franchise while adapting it beautifully for modern mobile platforms via Apple Arcade. The touch controls are surprisingly intuitive, allowing for precise aiming and power adjustments that are absolutely critical when calculating a cross-map Bazooka shot over a steep hill. The developers have managed to retain the nostalgic charm of the original games, complete with the hilariously squeaky voice lines and the sheer unpredictability of weapons like the Banana Bomb.
However, the game is not without its minor flaws. The UI can feel a little cramped on smaller iPhone screens, sometimes leading to accidental movements or misclicks during tense moments. Despite this, the sheer variety of levels and the seamless online matchmaking keep the experience fresh and engaging. It is a fantastic addition to any strategy fan's library and easily one of the best iterations of Worms available on mobile devices today.
Now this is more like it. I remember playing Worms on my PC in the late 90s, and this version actually does the legacy justice. It’s the full W.M.D experience, which means you get the vehicles and the crafting, but on a phone. The touch controls are a bit fiddly when trying to make precise jumps, but the core 'aim and shoot' mechanic works well enough. It’s one of the few games on this list that actually requires a brain.
It’s not perfect—the AI can be either braindead or sniper-precise with no middle ground—and the matches can drag on longer than they should for a mobile game. But for a conservative gamer like me, I appreciate that they didn't try to turn it into a gacha game or a battle royale. It’s just Worms. It’s reliable, funny, and satisfying to play.
