Diamond Duel is an adrenaline-fueled take on match-3 that turns a typically solitary experience into a high-stakes competitive duel. The brilliance lies in the shared board—every move you make could potentially set up your opponent for a massive combo, or better yet, steal the move they were clearly planning. It adds a layer of 'board control' strategy that simply doesn't exist in games like Candy Crush.
The character roster, or 'Duelists,' adds a light RPG layer that feels rewarding. Leveling up your favorite hero to unlock their unique board-altering abilities creates a clear sense of progression. The 2-minute matches are perfectly sized for mobile play, making it easy to jump in for a quick session. While the matchmaking can occasionally pair you with someone who has much higher-level heroes, the skill-based logic usually keeps things fair. It’s fast, flashy, and significantly more strategic than your average match-3.
Adding a 'Duel' mode to match-3 is an old trick to monetize competitive streaks. Diamond Duel is a flashy, high-speed game that asks you to be faster than your opponent. It sounds fair in theory, but in practice, the game is heavily influenced by which power-ups you’ve unlocked or purchased. As someone who values fair play and skill-based competition, the 'pay-for-advantage' feel here is a major turn-off.
The board is responsive and the visuals are sparkly enough, but the core gameplay is identical to Bejeweled, which I was playing twenty years ago. There’s no innovation here, just a layer of competitive pressure. If you're looking for a quick thrill and don't mind the occasional unfair matchup, you might enjoy it. But for me, it lacks the depth of a true competitive game and the relaxation of a true puzzle game. It’s caught in a mediocre middle ground.
Performance: Matchmaking is fast, but server lag can occasionally ruin a match.

Since you and your opponent use the same board, your moves can set them up for a massive combo—or you can steal theirs! Look for 'Hero Gems' that, when matched, activate your character's unique power to freeze the board or shuffle the gems.
Unlock and upgrade a roster of 'Duelists,' each with their own unique board-clearing skills. Use the trophies earned from victories to level up your favorite character and reach the higher competitive tiers.
The game uses a skill-based matchmaking system to ensure you're always playing against someone with a similar rank.
