Crazy Content, add some achievements!
Tue Nov 05 2019 Lil PipsI really enjoyed this game. I’ve been playing it on and off since Arcade launched. It took me this long to finally finish all thousand word puzzles! I can’t fault the amount of content, and I really enjoyed going through them all.
The last two puzzles were fairly amusing (was the prototype from 997 also related?) but I wish you’d take your own advice on the last puzzle and add ACHIEVEMENTS! This would have been the perfect game for them.
I had no problems with the game at all, except for the puzzles around 480 to 530. For some reason, i think that block of 50 puzzles escaped quality control testing. I had numerous problems in that block, from answers that applied to the previous (or worse, NEXT) puzzle, to duplicate puzzles, to pictures that would not load (a blank white image; I just had to find words randomly). After those puzzles though, it was smooth sailing through the rest of the thousand.
Absolutely fine.
Thu Sep 21 2023 TheTheoryA nice mid-tier word puzzle game. I love the lack of time limit, not having the standard star rating to judge how you did, and having free hints. Makes the experience relaxing (which is a good thing) and casual. I’ll probably continue playing to some degree because of those strengths. But at the same time I find the puzzles and the mechanic for solving them lackluster. The photos that serve as clues for each puzzle are very sterile. Strong stock photo energy, if you know what I mean. Finding the words relating to the photo is just kinda ok. Most of the time there’s one of two outcomes: I spot the word fairly quickly, string it together, and move to the next. Or I don’t spot the word and spend ages staring at the options before finally getting a hint and, then, spotting the word quickly and moving on. And I think the problem is there’s only ever one word to find at a time. You find it, more letters show up on the screen for the next word. As such, when you stall, there’s no way to put the word aside and work on something else. It’s either find that word or stop playing. It’s just not a puzzle loop I find engaging.
BEST GAME EVER
Sun Jun 12 2022 REALrater.comI absolutely love word laces! It’s got the same challenge level as any other word game basically, but NO ADS!! When you unlock shoe boxes, it gives you skins at random, so you can compare with your friends! There are free hints, and you get them right away- no wasting coins, money, stars, or having to watch an ad! It’s just challenging enough that it’s not just “spell dog” but not so challenging that it’s frustrating. It gradually gets harder as you go through levels, too! The only thing I’d say I’d fix is that there’s only 1,300 levels. Yes, that sounds like a lot, but I’ve had the app for a week and I’m on level 200. But overall, this is probably the best deal and my favorite word game I’ve ever gotten! Actually, it’s probably one of my favorite games I’ve ever gotten! I play when I’m bored, when I’m not, and any time in between! This is one of the best games I’ve ever gotten and I recommend for sure!!
Great word game, definitely try it!
Fri Oct 18 2019 Phoenix00017Simple, fun word puzzle. Familiar mechanics with a nice, themed twist and great aesthetics. Easily recommended if you enjoy games like Wordscapes or Word Cookies or anything else in that genre.
Two minor suggestions for the developers:
- My one frustration (albeit small) is that the level progress meter disappears after a second each time you spell a word. If you’re not paying attention you miss it and miss out on important information (is this the last word?). If the intent is to let players have that information I recommend just having the bar always visible.
- Make it clear to players in the tutorial that the spelling always alternates left-right-left. I guessed this was the case due to the laces theme, but knowing for sure helped with the puzzle solving. Also, related: don’t allow connections to go vertically - if it truly does always alternate, it’s annoying when I accidentally touch a letter on the same side.
Great game! But..
Tue Apr 21 2020 Mary M TinneyI LOVE WORD GAMES!! This is definitely on my list of great games to play, especially to pass time. I also love that hints don’t need to be paid for, that is REALLY BENEFICIAL! Thank you for that, btw. I think it’s very clever to think about all that could be going on in a picture. That really puts your puzzle-solving skills to the test. I enjoyed this game very, very much. Unfortunately, I have played through every level haha. Didn’t realize how close I was to finishing. Now I’m done! Lol. Maybe in the future, more levels could be added to game? I’d greatly enjoy that, I want to keep playing this game! I love it!
A decent distraction
Sat Dec 28 2019 Captain Raptor of the JungleI’m not much for word puzzles, but I do like the appeal of just sitting back, having some music playing and searching at my leisure the words I need to find. This game does that perfectly fine, even though it did get stale at one point.
The music and sound effects are fine, but after a while they started to grate on my nerves and I promptly muted everything to enjoy my own music. I’d have liked a little more diversity in the music, especially considering how often I’d spend in one puzzle.
The gameplay itself is fairly standard and that I ended up finding boring by the end of my time. I made it through 100 levels before I decided that my time with the game was at its end. The static pictures were bland. I would have liked some more creativity in the options, maybe something like having people submit drawings to be featured instead of stock Google photos.
I also didn’t like the minimalist approach to helping the player. Let the progress bar stay on the screen and give me an option to see what words I made so I can brainstorm more ideas. Having such a sparse UI kind of bored me since I wasn’t always actively engaged with the progress I was making.
Overall, even with my complaints, I had fun. I knew what I was getting with this game and it met my expectations exactly. If you want a laidback, easygoing word hunt game than look no further than Word Laces.
Needs a little bit more detail
Mon Jul 04 2022 I bit the appleI like this game and some puzzles are challenging. What I would like to see different is the progress bar stay on the screen during the whole game instead of appearing and filling and then disappearing only when a word is completed. In other words, the progress bar will be on the screen where it always has been, but instead of appearing and filling and disappearing, it will be on the screen empty when each puzzle starts and fill as the words are completed for the entire duration of the puzzle until it is completed. This is why I rate it four out of five stars. Thanks for a fun and sometimes challenging game to pass time. Keep up the good work. I look forward to new updates in the future.
No depth or meaningful challenge
Thu Oct 07 2021 Teel McClanahan IIII’ll admit I stopped playing after the first hundred words or so (and a poke around the sparse menus to see if I were missing something) and that there may be hidden depths later in the game, but from what I saw the “gameplay” doesn’t offer any more challenge or engagement on your 100th (and probably 1,000th and 10,000th) word than it does on your first word. There is literally only one acceptable word at a given point in the game’s sequence, it is always a word representing the image on screen—if I were playing via keyboard, this would at least make sense as a typing-practice game; instead it’s little more than a grade-school spelling quiz. If you liked looking at a picture of a bird and spelling ‘bird’ in the tutorial and want to keep repeating that action, I say have at it. For adult fans of word-based puzzle gameplay, look elsewhere.
It’s alright
Fri Apr 08 2022 randomperson47839The concept is cool and I like collecting new laces, but the actual gameplay can be frustrating. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of logic behind some of the words they try to get you to make. Sometimes it takes me a really long time to get a word, and then when I get it, I’m like “huh ok, I guess that kind of makes sense…” On the flip side, it seems like a lot of the words are just really, really obvious and easy. So there isn’t a lot of challenge in the game, but when there is, it comes from being confused and guessing. If I want to play something similar to this I usually play the secret word mode on Wordle. It doesn’t have pictures but the words make more sense and it’s more challenging in a good way.
Occupying until I lost my status
Thu Oct 17 2019 mnorris.mazeIt was very easy in the beginning them became challenging and kept me occupied. Tonight I was playing before going to sleep. My “20% battery” alert came on, I pushed “OK” and when back to playing. About 5 seconds later the app flashed and I was suddenly back at level one.
I tried going to the support page, would never load. I’m bummed, I was only on level 73 or so but starting over doesn’t sound ideal.
Edit: I just looked at some of the other reviews. Signing out and back into Game Center fixed the problem!
