Children of Morta is a stunning achievement in narrative-driven roguelites, and its transition to mobile is nothing short of exceptional. While the hack-and-slash combat is fluid and satisfying, the true heart of the game is the Bergson family. Between runs through shifting, dangerous dungeons, you return to the family home to witness intimate moments of love, fear, and domesticity. It turns the usually repetitive nature of roguelites into a moving story about legacy and the strength of familial bonds.

The mobile port handles the intricate pixel art with grace, and the touch controls are surprisingly responsive, though using a controller is highly recommended for the tougher boss fights. Each family member offers a fundamentally different gameplay experience, from Kevin's fast-paced stealth to Linda's tactical archery. The way the game forces you to rotate characters—preventing 'level-grinding' with just one hero—ensures you experience the full breadth of the Bergsons' skills. It’s a hauntingly beautiful, emotionally resonant masterpiece that belongs in every mobile gamer's library.

Now this is a real game. It’s got heart, it’s got challenge, and it doesn't treat the player like a child. The pixel art is some of the best I've seen—fluid, detailed, and atmospheric. What sets it apart for me is the focus on the family. It’s not just a lone hero; it’s a group of people with relationships and history.

The mobile port is surprisingly good, though the touch controls can't quite match a physical controller for some of the more intense combat sequences. It’s a complete package—no gacha, no energy bars, just a solid RPG experience. It’s tough, but fair. My only real complaint is that the performance can chug slightly when the screen gets filled with effects, but it’s a small price to pay for a game of this caliber.

Children of Morta is a story-driven action RPG with a roguelite approach to character development, in which you don’t play a single character but a whole, extraordinary family of heroes.
Hack’n’slash through hordes of enemies in procedurally generated dungeons, caves and lands and lead the Bergson family, with all their flaws and virtues, against the forthcoming Corruption. The story takes place in a distant land but copes with themes and emotions common to all of us: love and hope, longing and uncertainty, ultimately loss... and sacrifice we are willing to make to save the ones we care the most for.
Ultimately, it's about a family of heroes standing together against the encroaching darkness.
